I need a strip of EL wire 189mm long. If I bought a 1m strip do I just cut it with say, a pair of scissors? how does it work?
Yes, but it needs to be a sharp, clean cut so the outer corona wire (red in the picture) doesn't short with the copper core wire. You then need to strip back a bit of the two outer sleeves and phosphor coating to connect power wires to the corona wire and copper core. Solder the wires on and then seal with heat shrink (you can get a transparent variety) and a blob of hot glue. There's lots of how-to's on the web.
