I have LG L226 22" LCD and it's great because i can have 2 web sides at the same time showing in its full size.I'm very very very much in love with my 22" lcd 16:10 :)

I love my widescreens, Many webpages stretch to fill up my 24"crt and I throw everything else on my 22" that I keep on an arm.

I think WS is a waste most of the time. It's ok on a laptop because the screen have more the shape of the keyboard, making it more compact.

It's also good for watching movies or gaming, but for web surfing and text editing it's a waste. (why on earth would I want to pages up when I write? I rather zoom in on the page to make the text big so I can sit further away from the monitor.)

I prefer several smaller monitors. (running 4x19" ATM) Makes maximizing so much easier and better. When writing I tend to have a couple of sources on two of the monitors, while text editing is on the center one. The leftmost one is for Winamp only :D

some standard screen can do that as well.

And LCDs are 5:4, not 4:3 (well, 15" are 4:3)

Picked up my new 2005fpw (I know it's old but I wanted a matching pair) so now I've got dual widescreen as from about 10 minutes ago :)

    Now back to work :(

:p Sorry, not trying to make you jealous and I even debated not putting up a screen shot because it might seem that I was. However I decided to put it up to show how big screens can be used. If it makes you feel better I could list the drawbacks of my setup: bezel lines, limited game support, Vista won't "span", can't use SLI (maybe I could with SoftTH but that's an even bigger hassle), higher power consumption, sometimes It's almost too big. That said, I'm awful happy that it works at all since that was not a given when I started.

You're most welcome - it took me a while to find it too. I liked it so much I even made a tutorial for making grid files (link).

I prefer 4:3 aspect ratio for doing work. But 16:10 is fine for casual use and entertainment.

I debated my personal need for wide, but as said you pay a premium for 4:3 these days. I did not want to lose any vertical height, 22" hit the sweet spot for me and the desk. I'm getting into the hang of efficient usage - mail opens up 3/4-screen LHS, mail messages in a 1/3-screen RHS which is fine for text-only, and browser 3/4-screen in the middle. It's a pity Win doesn't have an extra window button to go to a pre-set size, eg, for HTML mail messages designed for 800px.

But if I browsed full-width, I wouldn't spot so many >4 line sigs... :eyebrow:

    Seconded. :p

It's easier for reviewing and editing, I find, where I have to move back and forth between different bits of text. It all comes down to personal taste. Some people like multiple monitors, I like a really big one.

Don't fret, we were just kidding. What is this forum for, if not to pimp your l33t hardware? I would say it is almost your moral duty to post this setup. :D

Don't worry, I work with consultants. They always remind me of my place (and God of His, given half the chance). :p

As hinted at previously try GridMove. (Another, simpler but much less powerful, option is ZoneSize but I really can't recommend GridMove enough. The only issue is that it requires some setup and learning but it's well worth it.

i have been pimping widescreen since the dawn of time (ok - since the dawn of the 17", 1280x768 lcd) and would not go back for anything.
@ work i have dual 17" 4:3 dells ... and it's barely tolerable. the gap in the middle really bugs me if i think about it.

i have a 15.4" laptop and the 17" that both of my desktop machines share ... the laptop also docks to the 27" 720p tv ... the only 4:3 screen i have is my tablet.

I'm a huge fan of dual monitors, but I'm still forced to agree. On my desk, I've got clearly defined 'primary' and 'secondary' monitors, and I love it. However, I've noticed a lot of people who have their screens set up as equals, and in that configuration the gap does start to bother me.

There is a tutorial for making Grid files (written by an admitted noob to the software and not totally complete but I believe it contains all the basics) Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about it.

Hmm.. does anyone backlight theres? Like a ambient glow that breaks up the LCD's brightness?

Just curious as both my computer monitor and HDTV 32" are kinda bright. And if you have done this, what kinda light/lamp would you use?

    :)
