How long do you keep the packaging that comes round that new piece of AV or PC equipment? Just long enough to check it works, or long after the warranty has expired?

I seem to have a roomful, often with the old equipment stuffed inside just in case the new one breaks. Guess I'm a hoarder.

I normally keep it for about 18months tops as I tend to sell if after. But sometimes during my constant state of movement it gets ravaged

Usually keep mine for as long as I keep the product, especially for stuff like mobos since it still has a load of the goodies still in the box.

Depends, pc stuff i bin it straight away.
Hi-fi stuff i always keep the box and packaging as it adds value to the re-sale.

Depends on the value and what it is really. I mostly keep boxes for added resale value

Where's the option for 'flattened and filed away in the appropriate location in my "box cupboard"'?

Same. Although, I still have all the huge boxes from the last complete PC setup I bought in 1996. The PC is long gone :D

I keep all boxes from expensive items, and also boxes that can be useful for storage.
I find motherboard boxes are great for storing the random junk supplied with hardware 9screws, IDE cables, backplane covers, etc).

Warranty-paranoia is also part of my reasoning. :p

I keep boxes, but they usually don't last that long as they always get used to store something else.

I've still got the box for almost everything I have bought (over £100) in the last couple of years. The only exception is my macbook pro's box which is in landfill in San Francisco somewhere.

I have a loft full of boxes for stuff some of which I'm sure I don't own anymore, occasionally when I go up there I chuck a couple of older ones away.. but mostly I just like to hoard stuff...

As long as I keep the item/warranty, it's really dependant on the item, some stuff I just ditch outright, things like packaging for cables or heatsinks.

I keep all of the boxes for most stuff over about £20 or so in a big plastic box in the attic.
