Well they are Lithium Ion, the same ones used in ipods etc, so about after 100 charges they will need replacing. If you charge your PSP almost everyday like me it will be around every 6 months you'd need to fork out for a new Sony battery setting you back so and so amount of money

So does any of you guys use the plug-in adaptor when you play your PSP, do you remove the battery when you don't need it so the power source can be external?

What do you do? Is it advisable to leave the battery unused for so and so amount of time or will it affect the battery span in terms of length, i.e, ur getting 4hrs instead of 6?

    Cheers

Hi, i dont use the charger with no battery even when possible really, never really thought about taking the battery out while charging to do it like that. I dont think leaving the battery could cause that though im not too sure. But its advised to use every last drop of the battery before you begin charging it again as it lengthens the life span.

i heard that lithium-ion batteries prefer not to be drained out before recharging

It is bad to let Li-Ion batteries fully drain. They aren't really affected by regular charging.

Still, even if it dies after 100 charges, that's like less than 10p per hour or something. No biggie.

Sony have been promising a higher capacity battery for a while so I'll be getting one of those before my first battery dies.

Li-Ion doesn't suffer from memory like NiCD and NiMH do (the latter not being AS bad but still not very good). I don't have a PSP but most of the time my iPod is in the dock, but I don't worry about letting the batteries get low when I take it with me. According to apple anyways, Li-Ion doesn't care at all... their page kinda explains it.

Generally I hate running off of battery though... my laptop is usually plugged in. Of course that's because battery life sucks so much on it (about 1.5 hours if I'm lucky)

All good quality devices won't let you completely drain a Li-Ion battery, shutting off before it happens.
