First off this isn't a cry or anything, just something I've noticed and irritates or puzzles me at times. When Im shooting or being shot at in MW2 I can run around a corner and still die about a second or two after i've escaped. Like bullets being fired are registering a few moments late or still register for a few seconds despite being behind a concrete wall. Or say im firing at someone and they run around the corner, despite me not tracking them as their behind a building about a second later after they've ran around they still die when im firing on the position they've just been... like the hit box was a bit fat and had to take a breath before going around the corner. Just wondering if I'm the only one who notices this and finds it really annoying as it's more so just enhances who ever fires first wins attitude. Even though I have like a KDR of like 4:1 the multiplayer just doesn't seem to be... skill required?
yeah, +1 for lag, I've noticed this in pretty much all FPS games, had it in COD4 and CSS to name just two.
Yeah it is lag but it does seem to be a lot more prevailent than in other FPS games I played recently, including Halo 3. I include Halo 3 as I also played it on XBox 360 and is P2P.
Yeah, it's definitely more noticeable in MW2, probably due to the method of lag compensation that's used (supposedly improved from COD4). You'll just have to deal with it, chances are you'll get as many kills from it as you do deaths.
BF2 wasn't too bad in terms of lag compensation, but did have a problem with odd-shaped hitboxes (which somewhat improved over time).
Killzone 2 has the most noticeable lag compensation. You'll notice it on COD when you watch the replays.
Plus you have to remember that just because your screen shows you're behind cover, there's still probably some of you not behind it, I've been killed/had a lot of kills where I was no where near them when I shot but I've also noticed on killcams that sometimes it's just that they've managed to catch me in the arm before I duck behind cover fully
You cant forget that if they have FMJ on their bullets will penetrate the walls, or at least that's what I heard
Zero_UK.. you are right mate. MW2 does feel weird when it does that sometimes. I think it's a combination of factors as mentioned by people above. Lag compensation, in some way is different/worse than it would be on a dedicated server because of the hosting. I think this is because IWNet is trying to cater for what people want rather than their location and subsequent ping compared to the rest of the people/the host. This means that people in England can play with people in Russia more fairly but also gives this weird effect. A lot like zero-ping UT if you ever played that.
Slightly off topic, but is there a reason I only ever seem to get into games with French or German players? I did play with a couple of Dutch guys the other night and they were quite cool, but most of the French players seem to be complete douchebags.
In internet terms the ping from you to France and Germany should be pretty decent. So they put you with them and then chose a host in Holland/Belgium and then everyone *should* have the same chances. I guess.. But yea, years on French CS1.6 servers has taught me that you speak the truth. They are online morons.
It is probably one person laggin in the game. But it is possible for them to survive the shoots I knwo I emptied a whole clip on someone and they didn't die.
