You've got a better chance predicting Nvidia releases using tea leaves than the actual product names.
We all know it should be called the 460. It seems like another one of Nvidia's 'clever' marketing strategies.
it reveals they want to enter the familiy barbeque bsuiness
I think the 465 is actually going to be nVidia's segue into the easy bake oven market.
They're just insuring that they'll have an excuse when they rebrand all these cards GTX 565 etc. "Oh we couldn't call it 465 cause that was already taken. Also the OEMs made us do it."
I think whoever is in charge of branding is just as crazy as ever, they're just trying to cover the tracks a bit better.
465 is a discarded 480(GF100?) with a 256 bit mem bus, less shaders and less of everything. 460 (GF10X) may be a new chip with similar specs to 465 but without disabled units.
I belive that the eventual re-spin of Fermi (with better power specs or at least better yields) will be a 580 or something
I'm sorry but who cares?
It doesn't matter what Nvidia call it or ATi call their cards. Can't see the point of you all getting a sweat on about a product number.
Waiting for this for my build.. so hoping its a cracker anyway
There must be a reason behind it but I doubt the "465" would be something special in the sense better than the 470/480 since that would completely redefine the way their naming works!
I like how everyone mentions how good Fermi will be after a re-spin. But hell they were 6-7 months late to market. What we all have to remember is ATI have had this time to rake in some nice margins on their products, which will hopefully be put back into R&D. This means ATI are more likely to refresh its line up before Nvidia do.
Any rumours on new ATI cards? Guess they would do well to improve tesselation performance.
Nvidia arn't doing to well at the moment, i will be sticking with my gtx275 for a while to come.
Was it the Gainward 275GTX that had the best cooler? It was in CPC a while back.
fire up the pc grill..
what price - any idea?
Lean Mean Fat Reducing Graphics Machine
It probably is just a renamed GT8800...
Theres no point trying to outsmart the NV marketing crew; they'll just knock you down the their level and beat you with experience.
I can only assume the 465 is called a 465 due to the 460 being reserved for the GF104.
The PCB and cooler being too close to the 470/480 make me think it is a recycled fermi chip. I hope it is going to be worthwhile showing at least 275 performance at 5770 prices. Not holding my breath though but the GPU world has got really dull recently.
apparently they have already started the test wafer spins, so there should be an announcement in the next few months.
