Hey guys, im going to get an ASUS Eee PC as soon as they are available and ive been looking around at the prices on different sites. Anyway in this site im not sure how much RAM this particular model has: http://www.asuslaptop.co.uk/products.php?cat=53 If you look at the second model on there, the Eee PC-L it says it has 1GB of RAM but when you go to more information it lists the RAM as 768MB. So which is it?
one of them is a typo, most likely the 768mb because who ever heard of a pc coming with 768mb of ram? its usually 512, 1gb, or 2gb. the other laptop there has the same problem. one spot says 256 and one says 512. Best idea, call them and ask. I can say which it most likely is but without opening it up and looking we are just guessing.
Ohh i didn't notice it on the other one. Then i think it may be that the lower values in each may be due to the fact that the integrated graphics use up some of the RAM but yes i guess ill call or something to confirm this
yes, 512+256 does = 768. I learned math a while ago (sorry for the sarcasm I’ve had an annoying day. Maybe its the stabbing headache or the herd of buffalo who decided to swarm our hanger today). The point that I was trying to make was that i cant recall ever seeing a laptop or a desktop coming with 768mb of ram. its *usually* 256+256 for 512, or a 1gb stick, or 2 512 sticks or 2 1gb sticks. The integrated graphics could easily be the culprit. 256mb of ram seams a little high for a discount laptop to use for video memory but who knows. I'm curious to see myself so make sure to post here after you call and find out
My roommate recently bought a new laptop with his PFD (Yay Alaska money). It came preconfigured with 768 mb of RAM. It's not very common, but I have seen it before.
may be it's a upgrade. you know. laptop has 256MB integrated and cannot be changed. so if you pay a little bit extra, you'll get a 512MB plugged into the expansion RAM slot
right, thats why i didn't say that it never happens, just that I cant recal ever seeing it. My point on the matter was that he should call in to find out what exactly the pc comes with.
I think I would be inclined to agree with wuyanxu, in order to save costs, all of them may come with 256 soldered on to the motherboard, but in order to increase appeal some will be upgraded wither 512 mb (+256) or 768 (+512) for a computer running a lightweight Linux distro like this, adding a 1gb module would be pointless and expensive.
