Had Prime95 running for about 2 hours. I know that I can push it a lot further but looking for a nice and safe everyday level.
4GHz on a 2500K is more than safe - it's extremely tame. They will do 4.5GHz comfortably on safe voltages; the "pushing further" with Sandy Bridge starts when you get nearer 5GHz. Have you tweaked your CPU voltage at all? 1.27v seems kinda high for 4GHz.
I have mine at 4.6 currently with a max load temp of 58 across most cores and idles about 31 (room ambient 26-28). Seriously 4.0 GHZ is basically stock for these chips haha!
Some good load temps there Matt for 4.6. I hit mid 60s on prime at 4.5, less in games tho. Ambient might be the issue (it gets sweltering in this room) To OP, as stated, 4Ghz is very modest. The other point is I can run 4Ghz stable at 1.18v personally, 1.27 is quite high. Did you set that voltage manually?
I love when people say such things. Say that to my i7-2600k, which randomly BSOD with 4.6GHz even at 1.4V.
I adjusted the multiplier first and left voltage at auto and it was at 1.32, so I dropped it a bit from there. If 1.3 ish is safe then I shall up the multiplier and see how quick I can get it at that voltage. Let you know how I get on later.
+rep... Yeah, the voltage anyone needs to do whatever with their processor is simply what they need to do that with their processor. They're simply not homogenous in that respect & it's a bit pointless to expect one to behave the same as another - whilst there's always someone who can get a huge OC with half a degree load temps by showing copper, zinc & a small potato to their CPU through a telescope, there's others that'll only get to very limited level without excessive temps or volts.
1.300v at 4.5 and prime95 didnt pass core 4 on the first test. Now at 1.320v and 4.5, 15 mins into test and seems to be going well. Around 57 degrees. Sounding ok? Also is it worth trying to get the extra few mhz out of the base clock?
Core 4 gives me trouble too! Sounding very good, very good temp, is that the highest individual core temp or package?
57 is average across the 4 cores. 56 is lowest 59 is highest so far. Have to see how its doing in an hour.
my 2500k at 4.5ghz requires 1.35 volts, anything lower and the 4th core fails after 2 hours in prime95. Temps hit 60 with a h80 on low but in everyday use under regular load I idle around 25-30 and under load / games it's in the mid 40's, sometimes in the higher 40's. Been running perfectly fine since Saturday.
To be fair my case does have: 2 Fans on CPU Cooler (Dark Rock Pro) 1 Apache Exhaust 1 Sharkoon Exhaust 3 Fractal Fans(Intakes) And excellent (read: average) cable management! Ill Grab some screenies Later
Here are my screenies from earlier! Not quite as low as I would like, (only 1 run of IBT as had to run out but thats the highest my temps hit when I got back!) Load: Idle: Not quite as low as I like, room temp was 28 degrees!
