Hello everybody, I have always wanted to upgrade my sony laptop with a SSD drive. I have obtained some info of the motherboard as follow:

    chipset: GM45/GM47
    southbridge: 82801 IM (ICH9-M)

    standard: ATA8-ACS
    Transfer mode: SATA/150
    SATA rev 2.5
    data transfer rate: 300MB/S

Does this motherboard support SATA2 or 3? many thanks:clap:

For laptops, it really depends on the laptop model more than the chipset.
If the laptop manufacture decided to implement or not a feature, as it's them that chooses and makes/architect the laptop motherboard.

The same way why some laptop models, despite using Sandy Bridge Core i5 CPU, and latest Intel chipset, don't have USB 3.0, despite having the chipset itself, support USB 3.0.
As you can have desktop motherboard manufacture for custom builder, add a USB 3.0 controller on an AMD or Intel chipset that doesn't support it. They simply add a USB 3.0 controller to the board.

So, based on the chipset, I must say it is most likely that it is simply SATA 3Gbps (SATA 2.0).
I haven't encountered a SATA 6Gbps (SATA 3.0), that doesn't cost several thousands of dollars, yet.

thanks, as long as it is not the first generation SATA, I would be grateful.
