Having had a 360 since 2006 and no problems other than the banshee howl of the thing I've had my first 'issue' with it. All the advertising of MW3 is starting to get me interested, so I (finally) got around to buying black ops to get into the right frame of mind. Got home& turned the thing on, started to configure the screen etc, game intro begins & I settle in..... Crackle hiss, rectangles and yep - the inevitable red rings!! Gah!! Posting to share the frustration as I was looking forward to black ops, and to ask if the 'fix' works or is it likely that the console has (very selfishly) departed this world?
Which fix are you refering to? I fixed my flatmates one by holding the heatsinks on with some screws and nuts, some new thermal paste and running the fan at 12V. Revived it but sure is noisy due to the fans.
No worries, RROD is an easy fix these days. Last time i checked they were even selling so called x-clamp kits with an assortment of screws and washers. Though a new fad could have come up since then.
I fixed mine with X-Clamps. Died again to RROD after 2 months. Buy a new slim and get rid of the noise
I have the "unknown error" on my one at the moment. Has been collecting dust for the last few months. I'm going to try the towel trick to get it to work again and then sell it back to Gamestop will all the games and pads. See if I can get some cash togethre towards a 580 GTX.
