    quick question:

    is it possible to register a . domain? by that I mean

    ****.IamALoser

    ****.weirdos

    ****.IateAcat

    where you can create an unlimited amount of texthere.DOMAIN. or www.texthere.DOMAIN or text.texthere.DOMAIN... Like a custom .com or .co.uk, but only I have the rights to it.

    Fraid not.
    What you are talking about are called Top Level Domains and you cannot create your own so your stuck with registering something.com, something.co.uk, etc.

    are you sure?

    lately a lot of 'top level domains' have appeared almost miraculously:

    *.tk
    *.tv
    *.info
    etc.

    yeah I'm positive. The top level domains are regulated by ICANN and are held on the Root DNS servers. The new domains that your talking about were agreed on ages ago but have only just come into service over the last lot of months.

    your stuck with the tld

    you could just have sub domains

    somethinghere.somthingelsehere.com(or 1 of the 65 or so tld's)

    yeah, but it wouldnt reflect the community as much.

    for example:

    www.DeusEx.gam = Offical game website

    DeusEx.Games.com = DeusEx-related content, affiliate of game.com

    it just doesnt have the same 'feel' to it as a TLD does. not to mention the financial possabilities of having a designated TLD that you control.

    Just took a look at ICANN. technically you *can* apply for a top-level domain, and it only costs $50,000 for an application (thats $50,000 for the APPLICATION. no guarantee!)

    it costs more than $50,000

    theres is so much work involved in changing all the worlds root dns servers to support them

    i dont think it would be a good idea to be able to create your own tld
