A friend was given an old company win2k laptop. From what i can tell it had a domain set up and he logged in with a name and password. he changed from a domain to a workgroup, so he could use it to connect to his home netwrok. But now he cant log onto the laptop anymore as the password seems to be incorrect. i assume this is because he's no longer logging onto the set domain now, but how can he get into windows?? i've tried leaving it blank, admin, password, etc./....

When you logon you should be able to choose whether to log into the domain or the machine...

The should be an Advanced or Details button on the Login dialog....

He'll need to login to the machine as an administrator in order to remove it from the Domain and join it to the workgroup (AFAIK)

If everything fails, try to joint it back to the old domain (you’ll need to physically attach it to the old network), and then use existing (domain) account with administrative privileges to login, create a new local account or reset password for the local Administrator account.

    Other options are:

    http://www.thomasmathiesen.com/itak/html/software.html
    http://www.atstake.com/products/lc/index.html

    There are more, just :search:

    Hope this helps!
