Constantine was a VERY loose adaptation of the Hellblazer title, which is a fantastically well-written story. The real John Constantine is a homosexual British alcoholic, 3 qualities that Keanu never would be able to do. They chose to change the character rather than re-cast the role, and it all went downhill from there.

Yeah I just dont see this being any good. Seems like they got some decent actors but are going to couple it with a bad script and directed by someone who has so far only done other lame-duck movies. Just hearing that it wont even be on Mars makes me doubt this. How you can "loosly" base a movie on something but use the title is beyond me. Might be worth renting on DVD about a month after it tanks in the box office.

One thing that amazes me about this film is the budget.

    They've started out with $70m.
The actors are all B/C list at best.
They filmed it somewhere in Eastern Europe (where it's much cheaper).

Ok, take away $10m for the license and actors, that leaves what? $60m-ish for the production? That's a lot of money, the CGI better be mind-blowing!

What's odd as well is that 'The Rock' himself (why does he go by that stupid moniker?) has stated the film is going to be a very hard 'R' rating. Does the studio even want to make money?

Don't want to be a pessimist but expect the studio to watch the final cut, hate it, order it be butchered into a PG-13 (a lá AvP) and a massive McDonald's marketing campaign ensues.

Remember sets and props aren’t cheap to make, even in back water European states ;)

Will the film suck? Dunno I can't see it being any worse than AvP.

They should make a movie from Theme Hospital :) That would be epic.

I thought The Postman and Battlefield Earth were good.. /shrug

But I dunno whats up with the lets-turn-every-single-big-game-into-a-movie thing is all about. Somethings are better left on our PC's then on the big screen...

Oh Dog... Babblefield Earth was a lame book made into a lamer movie. The Postman is a good book that got butchered. It's just "Waterworld" dried out a bit...

And "Doom: The Movie"? Now I know what I'm *not* going to be going to see in October!

Lol, I can imagine it now: "Doctor! We've just had word there's an epidemic of Bloaty Head spreading throughout the city! We'd better, uh.. Add a new waiting room and a couple of coke machines to the entrance foyer of the hospital!"

    Dwayne Dibley.

Actually, is it a myth that Waterworld flopped - loads of people went to see it just to see what $100 million made (or whatever the biggest-ever-budget was back then). I've seen it many times now (cinema + TV) and I really like it actually. It's cheesy, but it's grown on me.

Back on the topic of Doom, surely the studio execs realise that much of the interweb will just assume that it will suck... plus, they're going to have to convince a bunch of non-gamers to go and see it or they will have even less of a chance of seeing it.

If they are truely worried, nobody will see it until the day of release. However, if they believe in their product and are keen for some good word-of-mouth, they'll be holding some preview screenings. I'm gonna contact the PR people and see if I can get some of y'all to see it ahead of time.

Persoanlly, I dont think it will fare too well with the gamer community how ever it does have the potential to be another "Aliens" movie or possibly Pitch black of which I think were both rather good films.
However the one thing that really is of questionable credability to me is "The Rock". How good can the acting of a werestler-turned-actor actually be? I would assume somewhat carboardy.

I will be interested to see how it pans out, probably wait for several reviews, wait for other people to spend their money to go see it then make my own judgement :)

::EDIT:: I forgot he was in "the scorpion king" and my goodness how that film sucked. His acting wasnt much better either :p
