Hey, I reformatted my computer and then put in my 98 boot disk to get cd rom support, (have windows xp in the cdrom) and when i try to load setup from my cdrom drive it says: "this program cannot be run in dos mode" any ideas??? I had windows ME before but that shouldnt really change anything, but i've never had a problem like this before=P.... Well, thanks, IvAn *edit* I just tried to do windows 98 and it loaded in dos, so it has to be something with xp? any info is appretiated,=)
Windows XP CANNOT be booted off a WIN98 boot disk... Download the Windows XP boot disk creator here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q310994&ID=KB;EN-US;q310994 Hope this helps, .icecube
Yes, booting from a CD would be the easiest method. Although, not all BIOS support booting from a CD. Did all you guys know that in the next Windows release, there wont be any boot disks, lol. You will have to boot off a CD. Ivan, check for that option in BIOS, in the unlikely event that your BIOS dosnt support it then create the WinXP boot disks and boot off them. Simple enough. .icecube
It will do that from a CDR disc.. <jk> just boot as you did and run "WINNT.EXE" from your i386 directory on the cd.. same goes for 2000 and NT if you don't wanna mess with boot disks.. -scoob8000
thats if the bios supports it...but if this system is to run winxp i am pretty certain in sayin it shuold at least support booting of a cd....
