the case is coming together, and my finger feels like it's coming off feels like I've hit the bone just a split second, but apart from that, the wound is nearly gone must have been a very clear, straight cut... I hate pain, but the result of this casemod is worth te suffering so-far Theme: Black with green details The metalwork will all be done in, most likely, shiny black paint, and the now white plastic will be (possibly somewhat dark) green. All lights green, rims of the windows green, lighting of the window green , a green PLED display, possibly Whenever I get sponsored (not likely or got enough money (not very likely either ): All 5,25" bay mounted watercooling parts (bay-mounted pump controller, fan controller, reservoir )
Now where was that idea for a dark green lit black case? O ya in my head a few weeks ago, telepathic idea stealer.
Right, Small change of plans, today I putty'd (puttyd? puttied? whatever) the blue-to-be-black part of the front panel, and didn't really feel like doing much more Saturday: Working from 09:00 till 17:00, after that: not much in the mood for modding I guess... perhaps bringing the white-to-be-green part together, and puttying that too... Sunday: Not much, maybe some sanding, puttying, cutting (sheet metal, not fingers I hope) etc. but most likely not much Monday: Dentist in the morning, and packing for a lanparty after that Tuesday: lanparty, and resting after that lanparty Wednesday: Most likely my new hardware will arrive that day, or even a day earlier, so I will start playing with that stuff That day I will decide wether to stop continueing this mod, and start modding my current pc, or continue this mod 'till it looks nice, and THEN start modding my PhilipsPC930 project Thursday: MODDING (DoubleQtek or PhilipsPC930) Friday: Same
hmm, my host already pulled 2 gigs of traffic in 5 days since my traffic limit is 5 gigs, I'd better be careful, start using photobucket or something (EDIT: transferred everything to photobucket now ) Just carefully kicking this topic up on the list to get some more votes see post above to find out what the voting is about Progress of today: nil
woohoo, all internals will be here tomorrow! I'll continue modding this case now, but what happens tomorrow is still unknown what I'll do today? puttying the frontpanel, and maybe giving it a primer coat...
HOW on Earth did you get the putty to look so outstanding? I've had to rework mine three times now to no avail...it always ends up looking inconsistent. I apply plenty of putty and sand the crap out of it, but it never ends up looking as smooth as yours. The mod looks awesome, by the way.
And it's worse... I'm amazed by the puttywork myself seriously (first time I used it even) By the way, I use a tube of putty, no 2-components crap Applied thin layers of that stuff, waiting 45 minutes after each layer, and sanding it smooth, so that I can see where to putty some more... I just squeezed some putty out of the tube on to a plastic spatula (or whatever, creditcard-sized just a bit thinner, and more flexible) and smeared it on... Should have made a picture of the putty before painting it tho'... it was absolutely smooth, showing only a slight diffrence in color Just bought some spray-primer for the metal (and perhaps the other plastic part) and 2 spray-cans of BLUE Yes, I changed my mind, I want everything blue, perhaps with green accents, maybe some other color... Guess how much that spraypaint cost me? only 13,50 for 3 cans (1 primer and 2 color) (gonna need another can of primer tho' (I guess)
Hey, thanks a ton. I followed your directions (thin layers) and it came out perfectly! I actually went out and bought a tube of spackling nail/crack filler Monday night, but hadn't had a chance to use it yet. MUCH easier than the powder crap I was using before. It has a sponge on the top to help you smooth out the layers, too...very nice. And only 2.50! A tip on the spray: I'm guessing you got good brand paint, judging by the price...May I recommend Krylon? I tried 3 different brands of flat black paint (going from cheaper to more expensive), and Krylon went on the smoothest by far. And it was mid-priced at 3.50 a can.
normally this paint is 7,90 a can (in euro's), and it was only 3,95 for now I don't think I can find any Krylon in the Netherlands...
Wow...is it craft paint or something? I was thinking about trying another coat in a different type of paint...maybe one that goes on even smoother. I kind of like the textured look it has, but it doesn't hold very well--bump it against anything and it scratches, even after I put a matte finish over it. Sucks you can't get Krylon, though...awesome budget paint. If you want to check out what you inspired, I've got pics up of what I puttied last night. Thanks again!
And my new hardware has arrived... This project is now on hold, too bad for those 15 people who wanted to see more soon... I guess that's not going to happen... Not yet My next project will start as soon as I have my new system running well enaugh, and have backed up my old system. Right now the rest of my room is just like that picture... an absolute mess... Gonna fix that first... Tomorrow... Sunday... Monday... So don't expect any progress here or on my next casemod too soon, later all.
zoiets End of this year, I guess (he asked me if it would be next summer when I'll finish this one...) I really hope the Philips PC930 casemod is going smoothly... I've got all the hardware, and all of the case... the only thing I'll have to do, is puzzle a bit with the layout, and play a bit with standoffs and brackets and shrouds... Worst problem will be airflow I guess...
Just made a simple design for the left sidepanel (the side that's visible when the computer is standing on your right, where I always put my computer). The color scheme will be deep blue, combined with yellow lighting and details. The LCD you can see there is my 128x64px graphic LCD with 10x4 sectors touchscreen. This beast will be connected to a programmable chip, booting the pc, monitoring it (wohoo, SMBus ) Still gotta think of something to do with the other sidepanel
Lo loit, Why don't you put that fan a bit to the left, so you don't have those 90 degree corners through your round design? Cause when you don't have the corners you will have a much nicer design. Also the tiny top window on the left is a shame. You can better forget about that little window thingy.
that was just a quick design, I will be playing with the exact placement a bit, 'coz I want the 12cm fan right over my north and southbridge heatsinks, and the lines to go right through that. Compared to the rest of the panel, the placement of the fan and LCD is just like that... the diagonal bars will move
