56k is a joke nowadays, considering the size of most downloads... ^ Sustained uncapped connection when very-rarely blueyonder mess up and my modem seems to be upcapped for about 30 mins at a time
ive seen an uncapped sympatico DSL conection download at an honist 720kb/sec.......thats not available to the general public here in canada though......man, that would be cool to have at the house....
You guys are DAMN lucky Speeds on my machine rarely go over 3.5k/s, You should be grateful you're getting speeds of 60k/s!!! Like I've said before, the only broadband here is NTL, Available for rich-bitches only. BT don't do ADSL :cries: Not only go I get crap rates but I keep getting disconnected and I'm forced to use AOL which has slaughtered several pieces of software and hardware... And to top it all off, There's no local mast so the only available channel is 4, BBC1, BBC2, ITV and C5 don't work in this area without a £250 aerial installation. Hmm... I wonder if those net speed boosters actually work... anyone had any experience with them? Also, in Canada and America, whats the fastest possible internet connection for the home user?
Why not get Sky? If you don't want the subscription, pick up a secondhand box + dish on ebay then ask Sky for a free to air card giving you bbc, itv, c4, c5, and lots of other channels for free in digital quality anywhere in the country. I don't get BB here either, does anyone here who works for BT want to have a friendly word in their ear about upgrading my exchange (langney, eastbourne)?
There's a couple of news items on ADSL Guide That go on about BT keeping log of how many people ask for BB on a particular exchange. Once it hits a pre determined amount, they add it to the upgrade schedule. So get everyone you know in your area to express an interest!

Hmm I'm enjoying the wonder of a 28.8k modem... slllllooooowwww, Home is crap, at uni I had a 10Mbit/s connection to the internet, it rarely dropped below 100 KB/s, I didn't bother with downloads less than that!

I really wish Id kept the scrren shot of my 450 Kbps download from a local server. Im on cable and it usualy runs 200 from a decent site. I got 350 from a microsoft server once. Oh and Ftp's download much faster for me anyone else?
Just you wait till I got my 622MBit/s OC-12 line installed, I'll show ya... just you wait... mwwwaaahhhaaa what I can't afford the £1/3 mil a month? sure Barclays wouldn't extend my overdraft? drat... stuck at 28k permanently and going slightly insane...
the guys at my highschool were downloading quake off of a hacked server, they had a 900 MB/s download speed. iIt wasnt a quirck, he dicded to download two iso's at once, and got near the same total. My old school had a fast connection its faster now, but only if you are the only one using it. as soon as another computer accesses the internet it slows down to a crawl, they need better adminning.
whats the worst thing is that my friend gets his connection for free as he has BT servers in his house. There is a massive BT research complex near where i live so all the employees get free trials on all the new BT technology. :cries:
