Hello all. I just finished playing dreamfall - the longest journey. I must say that this might be the worst game i have played in a few years (not counting flashgames ofcourse). When I play games i do it because i want so play it. Not because i want to watch a movie. That's exactly what this game is. a movie. you can'n do much before you get to a long cutscene. I started playing a few weeks ago but gave up after about an hour because i got tired of all the cutscenes and talking, but i figued i shoud give it a second chance (i had nothing better to do) yesterday. I can't believe i actually played it trough to the end. The "fighting mode" in the game is awfull. The oponent pretty much just stand there defending. And the controls are terrible. Camera is awful aswell especially in tight spaces. I have heard that the graphics in this game was SO good. Sure, the scenery is nice, but the grapichs is nothing extraordinary. Looks pretty boxy. And what's the point of those conversations where you can choose what to say? you still get to the same result. You just decide in what order things will be said. Another thing: why is there so many "boxes" in the items menu? i don't think i ever collected enough items to fill them all. The story is good for a drama/adventure movie, but the lack of gameplay is unbelieveable. so.. you have hereby been warned. Anyone have different opinions on this game?
So i wont be playing that game then, thanks for the heads up becuase my time is so precious... 8) im looking in my PCF mag it gave it a 75% and its says and i quote "feel free to enjoy the ride, just don't expect to do much of the driving" ah well, how much of a cutscenes to game play ratio is this? More or less cut scenes than MGS2 or 3? or an equivalent game? But the graphics look "OK" but not great, as you said...
well.. i haven't playes MGS, so i wouldn't know. Hard to guess the cutcene to play ratio. This depends on how long you take to solve the "puzzles". I think i spendt 10-15 hours to complete it. I think some of the cutscenes lasts up to 10 minutes each. I would guess if you played it perfect, mabye 30-40% is cutscenes or conversations. I don't think the game is a complete waste of time if you play the game for it's story. It's a good movie.. or could be. i just love the end for some reason. (not your traditional hollywood ending. no happy ending )
Thanks for the warning as i was have been considering this game since it's release. I knew it had alot of cutscenes but i heard that the story and graphics would keep my glued to the screen. I won't bother now!
This game is supposed to be an adventure game. There aren't ment to be any action elements or serious gameplay in it. What do you expect ? However you're right to think that this game has no serious reason to exist other than its story which is a continuation of the first game (The longest journey). The riddles you have to solve are ridiculous..or should I say childish. The fact that it doesn't have an end is also annoying, it makes you think that they didn't have the time to finish it so they've released it like that hoping they will sell it in two piecies and make more money. Believe me, I'm a great fun of the first game and with this I got dissapointed a lot more than you did. I suggest you play the old title if you want to experience the real TLJ adventure. It lacks Dreamfall's graphics but it's a 100% point&click all-time classic adventure game.
I have to say I really enjoyed this game, but can understand why so many would find it boring. I felt it was a great break from all the other games I've been playing that required me to think too much. It was nice to sit back and just enjoy the story in the game. I found it really easy to just get completly obsorbed into, and hours would fly by in no time. Although the ending is completly killing me... the better get a sequal made soon or I'll go nuts. Edit: I forgot to mention that the sound in this game is amazing. The voice acting is great, and the music superb. More then once I caught myself just stoping and listening to the music and really noticing how it changes the feel of the game.
