Okay, I may be the only one on this entire board who cares and I'm not sure if this should be in Gen News, Software or the Linux board, so move accordingly If you're like me and want to switch over to Linux but can't because you use Dreamweaver (and Flash) MX and refuse to use anything else, here's good news... According to THIS article, the new release of Crossover Office from Codeweavers, version 2.1, now supports this software! It's great to see that the Macromedia developers have jumped on-board with the Codeweaver developers to get these apps working correctly within a Linux enviornment and can only hope that developers from other software houses will follow suit. Okay, no Dreamweaver bashing here. None of this "real developers use VI or Emacs". If you're in the position that I'm in with in-house development, using a straight text-based editor is far too slow. I've known how to hand code html since around '95 and php and asp since around '97/'98. Dreamweaver just makes design to product much faster and more efficient.
Ooooo.... Just found out they have a trial version available. I'm going to give this a go and see how well it works. If anyone wants, I'll be happy to post my results here...
Quick FYI... Downloaded and installed Crossover Office 2.1 without hassle. For giggles, I decided to try and install Internet Explorer 6.0 and was completely successfull! Take THAT Microsoft! Now on to Dreamweaver.... Oh! Forgot to mention that it looks as if this version also supports Photoshop for those who don't like the Gimp...
I've actually been a Linux geek for quite some time now (since Red Hat 6), but have never been able to totally eliminate my dependancy on Windows. I'm happy with Red Hat as it does what I need it to do without complaining however I'm thinking of trying SuSE at some point though. I did try FreeBSD a few years back and didn't really like the feel of it for some reason. I'm just giddy as hell that I can finally switch to Linux exclusively now! I only have to figure out how I can backup my DVD's with Linux though... I don't know of any software like DVD X Copy Express and/or DVD Shrink for Linux :/
Theres some software for copying DVD's on Linux... Can't quite remember the name, you might want to try Sourceforge. I've heard the new SuSE is damn good. Red Hat isn't bad, its pretty good. I dislike some things and like others. Its always a trade-off for every Distro you get.
Yea, Sourceforge is going to be my 1st stop when I get home tonight. I'm also going to try Freshmeat if I can't find anything I like.
I think solitaire comes with most distros. I'm not too sure on that since I don't really like solitaire...
