What country are you in? That's going to make a big difference...

Try using the Google Product search, that's always useful for me tbh. :)

I assume you mean "there was a google product search?"

what i think he means is search dremel in google and see what you come up with.

Wait for Christmas sales. Places like Lowes will have starter kits for $30. (I know, not online...)

You also might want to consider looking at a cheaper non-branded model for doing your heavy duty hacking and bashing and keeping the Dremel for the delecate stuff.
For example, here in the UK I have come across quite a few versions of a hobby tool with attachments for £15 - Aldi is particularly good for this if you can ever get one in stock. You can also get them in some of the big name DIY stores such as B&Q or Homebase but they are a bit more expensive. This option means that if you use it and burn it out then you've only spent about a quarter of the price of a Dremel plus you've got a bundle of tools left over. I have to say I find that the Aldi version of the cut off wheels in particular seem to be a bit more robust than the actual Dremel versions.

If you do stick with just a Dremel then can I suggest that you get yourself a flex-drive, this means that if you are going to do some heavy duty cutting then its the bearings in the flex-drive that take the pounding and not the Dremel itself. Currently in the UK you can get the Dremel 300+ from the Dremel website for about £60 +p&p which comes with a small kit of accessories and a flex-drive (worth about £35 alone) but my local B&Q were selling it for £45 - so I grabbed one, not sure if it was a mistake or not but I couldn't ignore that one.
