Folks, NEVER Dremel without eye protection... I was working a piece of acrylic, cutting it to size with a cutoff wheel whenI pushed it too far and it shattered. A piece caught the bridge of my nose and tore a burning path clear to my forehead, and it's deep enough I can feel bone. I'm gonna seek medical attention, and always dremel with face guards! I'll update after they fix my face...
I think it should be never use any power tool without proper eye protection. Its just common sense with an angle grinder etc, but with a dremmel it can be forgotton about. Just because its small doesnt mean it cant damage the user. And when you hurt your self, and need medical attention, isnt the order you do things in as follows 1 - Injure self 2 - seek medical attention 3 - while recovering, post on bit-tech Not with stpes 2 and 3 reversed, like you have seemed to. Anyway, hope theres no major damage done to your nose, and I think you should realy count yourself lucky it didnt damage your eye.
Mmm, I have to agree with this. I've been cutting with my dremel tonight, and had bits flying off every few seconds (bloody cheap wheels). Lucky I wear glasses tho, I need to find some proper goggles
Watchout, be prepared to have a sore wallet, decent goggles are expensive (lucky I have a dad who's a builder, therefore I have access to decent goggles)
my right eye is almost swollen shut right now due to a dremel. i was wearing eye protection, but a bit of something got me in the face a nanometer below the edge of the goggle, it felt like just another bit of whatever hitting me in the face, like a peice of sand, no biggie, right? wrong, once i noticed my face felt wet, i decided to minspect the damage, and the tips of my fingers were dripping blood when i brought my hand back. for some reason instead of just being a cut my face decides to swell and now people think i'm winking at them. i hope it's not infected, i bathed the cut in hydrogen peroxide, then completely covered it in neosporin, then one of them small waterproof bandaids that stick like you welded it to your flesh. all that blood and it looks like a paper cut. i don't know if it was a bit of the disc or a bit of what i was dremeling, because the disc was broken, i don't know before the accident or after (i kinda dropped it after turning it off after seeing the blood) cheers for the dremel veterans society!
I don't think you want pics of this. I had to have it cauterized, and I'll have a NASTY scar... Stepped out without my goggles, cause I had my mind on women problems, and this is the result. Oh well, mine will still take me, even with a big scar on my face...
Been looking for a keen volunteer, no-one seems to be forthcoming though. Might have to volunteer someone myself then.
Im looking for a punchee, I no someone very suitable for the puncher (me ). So if there is anyone who wants to volunteer, pm me .
Monster, I'm glad that you're gonna be OK, though I would strongly recommend having that eye looked at by a professional, my face swelled up until they got all the fragments out... You got off a lot better than I. I'll be fine, but I got a nice sized scar on my face... ...come to think of it, it looks like Squall's scar from FF8. I think it might be cool after all...
thanks man, i'm glad your all right, and now you look tougher. maybe you could by a harley and wear leather now!!!
Yeah, good goggles are a much better investment than a medical bill. Just wear the damn things if you are working on anything that has fast moving parts, no one ever thinks it could happen to them and then it does. Ive felt things bounce off of my goggles that would have deffinatly ended up in my eyes. Mod smart
but you've now literally put your sweat and blood into your mod, and have a sweet "battle" scar I hope you posted this AFTER seeking aforementioned medical attention
I use a 1970's something military gas mask, it has thick transparent plastic windows, probably to protect from cartridges and small shrapnel. The mask itself is made from about 2mm thick rubber and covers the entire face. (i couldn't find anything in the rules about image sizes, if it's too big or not allowed, please tell me) Yes, i wear glasses, that is my old pair stuck inside the mask because i see about 12cm in front of me without them. The cool thing with having something cover your face completely is that you can stick your face close to the spinning tools and whatever happens, you won't bleed This one doubles as a dust filter too, and you need one of those, you should see what a normal white dust mask looks like after a couple of turns with the dremel. I did cut myself with a Dremel copy once, i was testing a saw blade on the top of a piece of wood i was holding in one hand. The blade jammed, walked around the edge of the piece and back on the underside and into my left middle finger. That one bled for a while, luckily, i heal easily. I do have lots of scars on my hands thou, from all kinds of tools, mostly breakaway blade knives.
is that a m9a1 gas mask? i have one very similar to that, but american and grey. i use it for when i have to go to the bathroom after my dad... oh, and terrorist attacks
