The casualty this time.....my leg. Was working on my window panel when I cut out a little square part of the design and it fell on my lrg, oouuuuccch!! And its bloody annoying when dremel disks break all the time, one broke today and a bit flew off and hit me in the forehead, besides scaring the s**t out of me, it hurt
and jeans... I have hit my leg with hot metal all the time. the jeans give you enough time to get the hot metal off before it burns ur leg.
Yep you should wear goggles (i know it doesn't really count as protection but i normally just wear my glasses) and tough trousers, or use a jigsaw instead of a dremel...
i cutted plastic with dremmel ... i weared shorts and t shirt ... and no goggles ... and one melted plastic piece flyed to my eyebrow ... dam .. that hurted somutch .. now i wear sunglasses to protect my eyes
Well dremels are evil!! i cut my fingertip of once.. but somehow the doc made it heal :S impressive what they can do whit a nedle and some tread, they kinda "modded" my finger back togehter
i'm a pro, never broke even one disk maybe u put too much pressure on the disks and this is way the get break by the way, any one here thought of what will happen if a disk will break and pics of it will fllow right to ur throat?????????? no protection against it. man, its will hurt for sure
Lucky you... I had a dud fiberglass-reinforced one and the center part was weak, snapped after about five seconds of cutting. Not in half... the middle part just fell right out of it... tehre goes a dollar worth of cutting disk *sigh* I wear this full face mask type of thing... I can never find goggles. Kinda like a welding mask but not blacked out to protect your eyes from light, just the same shape. Quite uncomfortable and gets in the way But I never lose it like I do with goggles. I wish I would though, then I'd have an excsue to get about a dozen pairs of goggles to keep in my workbench at all times.
i wonder how these things would stand up against the metal cases btw the money is in CDN Diamond Cut Off Discs they also have a bunch of other dremel accessories there to.
Unless you have really soft skin I don't think it would happen, a bit hit me on the forehead, it hurt, but no cut togo with it. Saying that, the skin on the throat is 'softer', it hasn't got any bone behind it. So kids, what have we learnt from this? Dremels ARE NOT a toy and they most certainly ARE NOT your friend! mod on bruddas
Ive brokeloads n they hav slapped me in hed a few times its noway near enough pressure to cut thru skin (i dont think lol) i never wear goggles or owt hmm maybye i should start to lol
I've had a few near-misses with low flying Dremel disks in the past, and decided to wear a pair of glasses from now on. I'm glad I did, cos when cleaning up a window cut for a friend the other day, the inevitable happened, but this time I actually heard part of the disk make a ping noise as it bounced off one of the lenses!! Make sure you're Dremel safe
what i really hate is flying pieces of plastic or metal.. personally.. the plastic hurts more cause its melted and sticks to you.. the metal just hits you and bounces off (definitely need some goggles for my eyes.. could care less about my neck and whatnot) only broke one cutoff disk, fiberglass reinforced disk.. while cutting thru 18 guage steel. It just broke off and stuck in the metal lol. I had gotten my use out of it anyway though.. it ground down to about half of it's original size. Safety first though guys.. get some goggles for yourselves
Dremels are your friend, but as with all friends, you want to treat them right, not take them for granted, and not to be too demanding of them. RTFM, wear goggles and face mask, and protective gloves if required, and know the limitations of what can be done with them.
