I've got some rivets in my Chieftec i need removed, the smallest drill bit i have is 2.5mm, do i need something smaller? Thanks, Leeum
Probably not. I've just drilled some rivets out of my Enlight Server Chasis. They have a 3mm shaft on them and seem to be a pretty standard size for computer rivets. Just start with a small drill to see if it works in an inconspicuous (sp) place (behind the Mobo tray or something). TIP: use a small punch to remove the steel heads that may still be in the rivets. These can cause the drill bit to wander off course. Hope this helps
Just slightly smaller then the head of the rivet should be good. Youll want to get close to the same size of the hole the rivet is in.. Or you could always dremel the rivet off..
yeah we had to drill out pop rivits in shop, if its a 3mm use a 2.5mm i suggest and drill from the rivit side not the pop side ==|) <----that side (sorry bout my bad drawings)
The drill needs to be atleast the diamiter of the rivet. Bigger will be fine. When you drill rivets you should only drill off the domed head part dont try and drill right through as this may disturbe the hole underneath. When youve removed the domed section you can just use a small punch or somethign to push out the rest of the rivet. If you have a 3mm rivet drilling with a 2.5 mm drill wont do anythign as it will just go through the hole in the middle (where the steel pin bit is) At least in theory slater..
bit of a thread revival i know but would you say that for a standard sized rivet like from antec plusviews or most chieftech cases would they have to be replaced with rivets or could you use screws in place of that?
