I have a little idea I am going to have to giva a go, instead of using a corner of the cover to make contact with the eject button and drilling a hole (with fibre optic or not) for the activity light to shine through, I am going to use 'lighted vandal proof switches' from Maplins mounted in the top bay and wired to the contacts in the drives to open and close the drives.
I think the lights in the switches come as green or red, but hopefully with a bit of 'gentle coaxing' I should be able to shoehorn some ultra bright bloo ones in.
Of course this is all academic if I have some unexpected bills and hence no money for a new case.

Yeah ive got to say, its a great idea to gather all the open/close buttons to the top of the case, although i wouldnt want to try that myself:p

Has anyone done a stealth to their floppy drive? Of course it would have to be different than stealthing a tray, but you could have something that used magnets or something and when you pressed where the magnet was, it would release from the other magnet and flop down (if you know what I mean) :eyebrow:

I'm a great fan, and respecter, of all the modders on this site, don't doubt that, but may I make so bold??? I'll probably get banned from polite society for this but....

I've recently done this little mod for my Lian-Li and Pioneer slot drive etc. (There's a bit more in the Modding section).

Now, having many years engineering experience (to trade - and yes, I'm old-ish) I love all the gadgets we can now get, however this little mod does NOT need a Dremel.

Eeeek! I hear you cry, "Blasphemy!!!"

No. Really. Use a Junior hacksaw to take off the side brackets and a drill (for pilot holes) and a Coping saw (thinner blade than the junior, and a deeper back) to cut the slot.

The edges are much cleaner, the ali dust does not fly around the place unless you go at it like a banshee and clean up is a lot easier. I ought to point out I *do* have a dremel but it aint the proper job for this. (IMHO)

The time it took me to do the cutting was probably less than a Dremel (bless it) would take.

By the way to clean up I used a flat needle file followed by a few wipes with wet, wet-dry paper of about 180grit. Just don't get this on the outer surface.

i can see how you can put a cd onto a cd tray the tray goes into the drive and reads the cd what im asking is how is it that you have that slot able to take the cd in all the way and read it then eject it? if that helps with my question

Sorry my bad. The drive is a Slot fed drive. It comes from the factory that way. There is no way to turn a tray drive into a slot drive. One example is the Pioneer 120-S drive. Its a slot load DVD Drive. Its a discontinued item so if you want one your best bet is to look on ebay.
