    Ok here is the situation

My main rig has 2 80 GB disc in Raid 0 I want to clone the disc and put it on a 500 GB hdd, then swap them out to my server where i have a disc failed.

I have my server set up with the OS in Raid 1 the 2 drives are 250GB. Can I clone the good drive and put in on an 80GB drive and set 2 of them up in a Raid 1? I don't have the money to buy another 250 GB drive at the moment and there is not 250 GB of data on the raid it is only for the server OS.

So is it possible? Suggestions/comments please.

Yes, that should work. You're talking about doing it step by step which is good as it will allow you to test each step as you go (so get the server running on a single drive as a test and then raid it).

    But...

Do you have backups of all your key data? If not then sort that out.

The server is my back up for all my computers. I just noticed that the Raid was degraded and would rather change out the disc than have both disc fail. I do not store any data on the OS drive on my server I keep it in a Raid 1 so that I do not have to spend countless hours setting everything up again.

It shouldn't muck things up going from a Raid 0 to just a single disc should it? FYI it is a hardware raid not a software raid.
