Do you have an old Notebook computer? The computer was dead but the LCD screen is still good. Why do not rebuild it. Have it become your the second monitor(TV) in your home. It is very simple. You need an inverter, a driver board, and connect those wires. You can DIY your own LCD TV. Here is all the stuff you need: an inverter, a power adapter, a VGA cable, and a A/D converter . Different types of LCD panel use different converter and connectors. There is such kit for sale. Please take a loook of my blog and have some comments. http://360.yahoo.com/smartjohn5611
How much did that circuit board thingy cost you? looks interesting as i have a laptop that just died on me
Kinda off topic: But it is pretty neat, Just because you can get so many of those older laptop panels with a dead laptop attached, (or not attached). Actually that is kinda cool because what I always wanted to do was convert an old laptop into nothing but a Keyboard, mouse, video, audio front end that you could take places. The problem then becomes how to convert a laptop keyboard to ps2 or usb, if your are lucky sometimes the touchpad in some laptops is ps2 compatable once you figure out the pinouts.
yea, but having a super thin panel like that can come in handly, alot of flatscreen monitors have bulky panels? that is the only advantage I can think of... other than that yea, it does not make sense to buy a driverboard for an older lesser lcd... that costs more than a new monitor Cheers, WarriorRocker
also with that adapter board any laptop screen becomes just as bulky. do you think LCD monitor manufacturers make them so big just for the fun of it? It's necessary to house the electronics and power supply. bottom line: doing custom electronics will always be alot more expensive that purchasing mass manufactured stuff. Also why link to a site which requires Yahoo ID? I don't have that so I can't see the blog. Sign up on blogger or wordpress instead. At least they are open to the public.
I want to do this but the yahoo link doesnt work. I logged in and when i click the link it just brings me to my stupid profile. I want to know how to do this. I've got a Dell Inspiron 1526 LCD I want to convert standalone for use in my car.. What the heck do I ave to do.
Why doesn't the yahoo link work. I want to know how to turn my Dell Inspiron 1526's monitor into a stand alone. halp
