Just a quick question - was wondering if anyone knew if there is a requirement to have been driving a minimum length of time in the UK to drive in Europe?
Doh, missed that section on the site. Cheers. Excellent - there doesn't seem to be any minimum amount of time driving. It's probably going to be all EU driving, so that should be fine for our tour.
Off topic, but I'm curious- how many countries in Europe drive on the right hand side of the road? I know France is right handed and England is left-handed, but I don't know about the other major countries. L J
If you're going to Deutschland, watch the speed limit on the ramps to the autobahn. My friend didn't realize there were speed limits and got caught doing like 120. So now he is never allowed to work for the german Shell division or drive in Germany.
Even though the whole world thinks its legal to drive any speed onteh autobahns its really only a very small section. its actually legal however to driv as fast as you want inbetween cities in the isle of man.
Most countries in the world drive on the right, although more drive on the left than you'd think. Here's a map and an explanation as to the why's.
lol yeah, I was pretty certain that there would be some kind of 1 year of driving minimum. I'd better start my lessons next week if I'm gonna be half-ready for the summer...
I actually thought it was 3 year and 21, infact, Im pretty certain it WAS until very recently because I vaugly remember looking into an EU road trip when I was 18.
Remember that many European countries require you to carry additional safety equipment or spares in your car (warning triangles, spare headlight bulbs, maybe even a fire extinguisher in some countries) whilst driving on their roads!
Warning triangles!? lol, you've got to be kidding! ...We're gonna have little room as it is with 3 of us and our gear inside a Mazda Demio. I'll need to look into these rules.
A warning triange compacts down very well. We have them stored in some nook in the boot, usually below the locking mechanism...
aye, warning triangles are flat too so are hardly noticeable!! I always thought the 3yr/21yo thing was just for a restriction put on by insurance companies? I guess that is wrong though
