Join the army etc get a licence there and you can drive.

Current test system is flawed, drive gd on one day and people pass yet it still takes years of practice to be a good driver.

How people pass and fail at a test center is dodgey as people have driven fine to pass the test yet fail and have to repeat, seems exaimers like to get there moneys worth out of people, test is not exactly cheap.

    Congratulations!!

By the way, in 20 years of driving, the only accident I've had as a driver was when I pulled out from a row of parked cars, in a very quiet residential street, and forgot to check my blind spot.

    Always check the blind spot!

The blind spot, as well as the one spanky is talking about, is also the place around the corner that you can't see. Always drive so that you can stop the car in the distance along the road that you can see.

That would have stopped me from spinning on a country road and being very lucky to stay with 2 wheels on the black stuff to let the rear end spin back onto the road. If the front wheels had left the road as well I would have hit a tree and died.

Hi OP. I think your first fail was legit. As an ex biker, I have had friends hit by drivers not checking the blind spot.
Don't worry about failing. I failed my first 2. At the time, it seems like the biggest injustice in the world, but I took a break from driving, or learning at least, left it a bit (well 3 years LOL) then learnt again, this time I passed 1st time with 3 minors.
I used to have an uncle who was a driving instructor, and my exes dad too. They both said a similar thing. Sit your test as early as you can like 9.01 Monday the 1st.
Sounds conspiracy theoryish but examiners have to meet targets, they have pass rates to stick to.

    Hehe thanks mate :thumb:

I saw his head swing forward and he just looked at me "Ok i won't ask you to do that again" my best emergency stops were on my tests

Good luck my sisters is in two weeks :D
I agree mainly my whining was the utter frustration i had made such a ridiculous mistake baring in mind i failed for a 2 second lack of concentration on my part! if i did'nt get the cancellation my next test would have been january next year!! its that long wait thats so irritating

Yeh its so frustrating not passing when its sometimes quite small i just slammed my head on the headrest and shouted "THANK GOD!"
Passed today hence the bump :thumb:
I always hear this there was 3 people in the test centre today including me the last two it was empty! we all left at the same time and came back almost the same time! i know one passed not sure about the other one but i've heard best times to get the test

I actually think that failing can make you a better driver. You take more lessons, learn more, try again and practice till you get it right.

I failed my first 2 tests, first on following too close to the car in front (I was a good 2-3 cars back and it was a very clear dry day so, whatever), the second for incorrect positioning coming out of a one-way and failing to follow instructions (I took the wrong turn at a roundabout).

On the third time I may some silly faults, observed that I made them (took the wrong turn on a roundabout, AGAIN), asked if I could carry on the current route or should I turn around when next safe to do so and they were ok with that!
6 years on and I feel like I drive better for all the mistakes I made. The prangs I've had have all been stupid things in my own drive way!

Glad you passed and I wish you may years happy motoring. Don't go driving like a tit thinking a 1.0L is a race car and you'll get along just fine :D

Great advice, if you want a race care it has to be at least a 1.2!:D

I failed my first driving test for not allowing a crash to happen - go figure.

I've nearly hit a few that decided it was a good idea to sit in the blind spot and then overtake in an unsafe place - its a good job I check it.

Xen0phobiak I am not suggesting motorcyclists are flawless, some of them are very ignorant drivers. Not all of them mind.

The CT driving test is a joke. When I took it, it was 16 multiple choice questions similar to "Which shape is a stop sign?" or "Under which circumstances are headlights required?"
This was followed by a practical that was definitely no longer than 8 minutes. We drove up the street, (it was pretty busy, but I understood the concept of LANES of traffic so I had no problem with it) a 3-pt. turn, and then backing into a parking space.
I'm also pretty sure the test only lasted longer than five minutes because there was actually a 2 minute long rain storm while I was out there (good thing I knew what to do with those wipers and headlights, eh?) for which I slowed down to 30 mph. AND the instructor's car was automatic, as is the custom in the U-S-of-straight roads, 90 degree turns-A.

Congratulations! I passed second time, but my first time failed with 3 majors.

    1. Coming away from a double roundabout (which I had never encountered before the test), I had the wrong signal at the junction, having had to change 3 or 4 times in a matter of seconds, 2 minutes into the test.

    2. I pulled out in front of a car coming round the corner. Realistically I had time and space (the other driver didn't need to brake excessively or even steer), but the lady found it "too close for comfort".

    3. Pulling over to the curb for the umpteenth time, my front wheel mounted for a split second.

All three mistakes I had never come close to making in practise or lessons, but it just demonstrates the different feelings on the day. Second time I passed with 3 minors. So at least we got there in the end! :)

Ha you think that's bad, i got a total of 4 minors and a major for - driving too close to another car.

The guy confounded it by saying - "really good drive, but in the first 5 minutes you went past another car a little close, it was the one that was park ilegally and really had it's arse hanging out at the first set of traffic lights. I noticed that the rest of the drive you kept a good distance though"

Still gave me a fail for it! I thought the general rule of thumb was that if the drive on the whole was good and the person corrected the mistake that it should be left as a minor.

oh and the thing about tesers having targets to meet is very true, a good friend of mine is a tester and he recomended first thing monday - although he was at pains to point out that if they have had a bad crop of drivers all week then a sunday can be golden as they'll be inclined to pass you!

I passed my test today first time with 2 minors :D. One for moving off safely and one for the correct use of signals.
