Hey guys, really quick question. I want to intergrate a psone lcd into a project that i'm working on with a epia board. Now with the main board+hdd+cd+usb devices it brings the total power consumption to about 50.4 watts at full run. The lcd (according to sony) draws 6.8w of power, and needs 7.5v to power it. Now, with a 80w ps, what would be the easiest and smallest way to drop the 12v to 7.5v? I'd really like to keep it so that the system only needs one power cord, so any solutions would be apperciated.

All right, the 7v trick won't work with this because you need the ground to be grounded for the data/signal.

You should check out the LM317 adjustable regulator. You could try using diodes to drop the voltage, but you would be drawing near 1A so you would have to go with 3A diodes, and you would need 6 of them, and that would end up being bigger than the LM317.

The LM317T is certainly the best way to go, at 6.8W load (910mA) it will be dissipating just over 4W from 12V input so you'll need a decent heatsink on it, 15C/W or better for comfort.

I make the setting resistors 240R and 1k2 for 7.5V output, which is handy. :)

Looks good, and its pretty cheap too to pull off digikey. Would you mind even doing a simple diagram for me so that I know what I'm putting together? :D

Digi-key should have the datasheets, and they should have example schematics in them.

Bottom left of page 1 on the NS Datasheet, R1=240R, R2=1k2 instead of the variable shown. Note it's the 317T you need, 1.5A max.

You guys are awesome, now to get enough together to make it worth ordering instead of just those parts lol.
