I had to settle for DSL when I moved back to TN and well, it's.. slow. The highest download rate I get per file is probably 100kb/s and with multiple files I probably get a total of 150kb/s it's 3mb/s down and 512kb/s up. Is that what I should be getting? What's a good bandwidth test site (for US)? Thanks..
For a 3mbit/512k connection you should get around 250k/s down, and around 60k/s up. http://www.speedtest.net/
I'll run the speed test as soon as two of these videos complete. So what could be causing my downloads to be slower?
I assume with a 3mb connection with DSL I should be getting higher than 1500~kb/s on a bandwidth test.
So I called Bellsouth and complained, she had me run one of their speed tests and well.. She set up an appointment for a tech to come tomorrow morning so
Well, a tech came down and tested his pocket DSL router to determine the lines were just fine, then he swapped my DSL modem for another one that didn't work, so he then swapped it for a DSL Router and still the same issue. So he went back to the server location and then came back then left again and said it was a problem with their servers that a tech that fixes that will call me. That tech called me and said it was a problem with .NET who provides the internet to AT&T and their provisioning with my account and they should call me on Monday (2 days later) and Tuesday the internet was working, but no phone call. So no idea =/
Sounds like they b0rked setting your line up, and told their hardware at the 'phone exchange to give you a lower speed than the line was capable of.
In the uk the channel 5 program The Gadget show is doing a survay and starting a movement to sort out this BS trading by suppliers.
