I am working with a company to bring out a system with pretty serious specs. A lot of extreme cooling, bitchin' peformance and a price tag to match...

Its the same kind of thinking as is behind the Vertu phone (www.vertu.com), make it cool, make it the best, make it exclusive and sell it for a lot of cash...

    Initial specs include:
dual supercooled processors, I personally won't be happy unless we crack over 3.5GHz within official manufacturer tolerances
we're looking a gfx options to power dual 24" TFT monitors at 1900x1200 and a 63" plasma... seeing if it would be possible to mount multiple gpus on one board if cost isn't an issue
4GB of RDRAM clocked at 150-200MHz (600-800MHz FSB effective)... hopefully, :) try and get some aggressive memory timings to

guess you don't want to know more...

well this is a research project at the moment, with the possibility of going into production if a) its possible and b) there is a market for it to be profitable...

The price... well ex speaker package we are looking at under £100,000, with speaker packages ranging from about £10,000 to a mind blowing £922,000 system with the following components...

6 £110,000 Krell Master Reference amps
    £660,000
    [IMG]

1 Lexicon Balanced Music and Cinema Processor at about
    £9000
    [IMG]

1 £28,000 Krell Master Reference sub
    [IMG]

2 pairs of these Krell LAT-1 speakers at £37,000 per pair
    £74,000
    [IMG]

1 pair of Krell Lat-C speakers at £37,000 a pair
    [IMG]

8 Nordost Valhalla interconnects at £3000 a metre of interconnect
    £24,000
    [IMG]

30 metres of Nordost Valhalla speaker cable at £3000 a metre £90,000
    [IMG]

Producing 12Kw over 6 Channels (2 Kw per speaker), driven at 4 Ohm. The sub produces 2.6 Kw, enough for 120dB at 16Hz...

Hmm never had a bad response yet, :D!

Wouldn't that money be better spent on solving 3rd world debt?

I'm sure for the price of dual P4 xeons, you could easily get two or more dual athlon setups.

That is the kind of thing I would definitely like to buy, but only if I was a billionaire. I think it would sell as the sub £100k system, but not with the sound system on top!

100 Athlon systems wouldn't be quite as special and this takes up a lot less space, :D This might be around £60,000 with speakers...

3rd world debt will only be solved by it being cancelled, this is meant to be a fun activity, the Lamborghini of the computing world... but more reliable, ;)

What would you use it for? We looking at enhancing the windows visual interface, providing multiplayer gaming on the same PC (shouldn't be tricky with 3 monitors!), PVR abilities (care to record off 2 terrestrial channels, 1 satellite channel and still be able to watch satellite HDTV on a 63" Plasma? with real time encoding into DivX/MPG4 (or similar), plus a few other things, ;) its not just the system though that will make it special...

Athlon doesn't O/C anywhere near as high as a P4 system, which is why it wasn't included, although it would be easier as AMD has had experience with selling commerical thermally accelerated systems through Kyrotech.

people who will spend £25,000 on a Vertu (www.vertu.com) mobile phone, £100,000 on a projector, £250,000 on a bentley, etc... buy them because they simply have to own the best there is. Marketed carefully this product could skim the very high end of the market successfully.
