cod2 is muti-threaded is that why i had/have to set affinity to even get it work properly without affinity setting i couldnt even complete the tutorial as it wouldnt register hits with the potato grenades nor would you heal when you hide not to mention it still had the usual jerky issue of quite a few games on dual cores in fact i think fear and q4 are the only recent games i havent had to set affinity for hl2/dod:s is the worst cos i have to set affinity through task manager everytime as it doesnt work when i use imagecfg to force it (which works for every other app i've tried) im going to blame that on steam tho, **** steam
well its not fps jerky but hdr its jerky as hell, instead of the 'apperture' changing smoothly it jerks around in big jumps, really sucks
COD2 is fine here without the multicore patch, but the multicore patch has both CPU cores running at 100% load. Source is the same - runs completely fine without setting CPU affinity.
hmmm well cod2 definately didnt work without setting affinity for me (never patched it from retail) source is fine except for hdr, but im sure you've said hdr is fine for you before are you using nvidia graphics + 80 series drivers? the multi-threaded ones? im still using catalyst 5.12 as i havent gotten round to rebooting after installing 5.13 yet
hmm i bet its that then, i shall try and remember to reboot tomorrow (err, today now) sometime and see if that fixes cod/dod issues dont see how it could be anything else im running X2 4400 and an x800xl, xp sp2
I take it you've got the AMD Dual Core driver and the Dual Core HotFix (forget the Knowledge Base hotfix number, though)?
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=896256 this one? yep not certain if i have the amd driver installed now tbh, but i did on my last install which was when i last tried cod2
I get that too, though only in DOD:S (maybe hl2 also, haven't checked) :/ Still haven't found a good workaround. bigz - I'd like to know more about this hotfix or whatever, if it helps things. Getting the Q4 patch now. I'd like to find out more with FEAR though. Eh meh, forgot I uninstalled Q4 becuase my raptor was dead in the space department. To the other hard drive! I just needed a threaded version of Firefox. animated gifs and scrolling are really choppy if I don't set affinity. Not a huge problem as I leave it open for hours and hours on end thanks to tabs, but still a bit annoying. /edit - mmm... q4 SMP Once I tweaked it to 1680x1050, the limitation was back on the GPU! Still fairly unplayable, but that's what I get for leaving it at highest settings from the stock 800x600.
Off topic and stupid, but how the hell do I remove the frame limit in Q4? I've tried editing the auto exc but nothing happens. I get a full 60fps on one core, with the new patch I want to see if I get more (although I probably will get very little I want to see)
In doom3, it's com_fixedtic -1, but that didn't work for me there. Never tried in Q4. But, they use the same engine; worth a try.
Shut up you! That does it then... I was ready to do it when that other article was posted until I Saw the date on it, but if older games are being patched, then it's time to change. My FX will be on Ebay tonight. X2 4800 here I come
you ever thought about ordering something like a 180 from the states? It's still pretty likely that they'd be an earlier core
the 5000 Will the FX60 be dual core too? If that's the case I would like to see Pookey's face if he has already bought the 4800!
because the FX60 is 2.6GHz whereas the FX57 is 2.8GHz in any program that doesnt take advantage of a dual-core architecture, the FX60 will be slower, in any other situation, the FX60 will positively annihilate the FX57
