I'm looking to build a new set up, a xmas present from my boyfriend. We were investigating some prices at Best Buy, and the sales person there could not give us an answer on this particular question. With the new dual core intels and AMD chips, will a game recognize this as the combined speed of the chips, or just the speed of one of the chips? I'm not really looking to build anything top of the line here, just upgrade my older CPU, but some of my games will not work on anything lower than a certian speed.

no, windows will assign the game to core 0. the second core will be doing any other background tasks that windows is doing at the time or doing nothing at all
