o.k this is my next system for next year , and i'm think i'l go dual this time , but dual what, amd or intel, what main boards are out for for both makes of cpu, thay dont have to have the raid options, and i want to go chep as pos on the main abords
Well the answer is . . . a question (don't you just hate that?!) Anyway... Which OS are you planning on running on said dual-processor system?
is that counter question related to drivers ? is linux support for the AMD dual boards not that good ? what about win2k ?
You can get pretty cheap motherboards for dual Intel CPUs but the AMD ones are still quite expensive at the moment. Especially as the only decent option seems to be the Tyan board!
if u wan a quiet and cool dual CPU system, go for intel if u want raw power with no concern over noise as much, AMD's the way to go i can't afford 2 Swiftech MCX-462s aniwae
There's nothing about it anywhere yet it's so new.... all I could find was this : http://hardware.no/nyheter/oktober01/epox.html which has no pics, but tells you this : 4GB DDR SDRAM i 4 DIMM slots (PC1600/PC2100) 1 AGP 4x slot 2x64bits PCI slots - 66MHz 2x32bits PCI slots - 33MHz ATA 100 kontroller 4USB Intel 82559 LAN kontroller
My 1.266 Tualatins oc'd to 1.5 equate plenty of power. The new p3's come extremely close to AMD on performance, if not better on some applications. The only problem is the price, as those processors go for around 250 dollars. I use the iWIll DVD266u-RN motherboard, which is a fine board based on the VIA pro266t chipset. The ddr isn't needed and doesn't offer any imporvement of sdr, but i had some extra ddr ram, so no biggie. Tyan makes some great dual tualatin boards, along with supermicro's serverworks motherboards. As for AMD dualness...Tyan Thunder K7 is at the top of my list. The new MPX boards will probably have the overclocking features etc, but you can't beat dual 3com serverclass NIC's, the rock solid stability and integrated scsi.
