    Welcome to my build :)

This Project would not be possible without:

Little Devil Phase Change < Click for link to contact him
His phase unit is, frankly, amazing. He sprayed the compressor white for me, the condensor black, and custom made it to my measurements, its just fantastic!

Duniek - Custom Watercooling / CNCing < click for link

Duniek is making the custom waterblocks for my motherboard, so I can hopefully reach some stupid clockspeeds ;) hes a great guy and funny at times and he does EXCELLENT work

    Hardware

    Asus Crosshair III
    Phenom II 965 BE
    4Gb Dominator 1333mhz
    HD5850
    Coolermaster Real Power Pro 850w
    1Tb Samsung Spinpoint F1
    LG Blu-Ray Drive
    Lian Li PC-343

    Cooling

Custom Phase cooling Unit By LittleDevil:D
Loop 1: Tribal Overkill Dual Reservoir > Phobya Pump > Phobya 120.1 > Crosshair III Block
Loop 2: Tribal Overkill Dual Reservoir > Phobya Pump > EK 120.2 > 5850 Waterblock

    On with the show!

I've decided to put everything in a single post for ease of reading

    ----------------------------------------------------

    heres the case:

This whole project was built around a V2x00 but this PC343 came up and it has been professionally modded by marcus at WCUK (it was his rig!) and it was at the right price, and it is exactly what I wanted looks wise, so I jumped at the chance.

    heres the case:

here it is a while back with a i7 setup (long gone)

and heres how it looks with my hardware & fans installed

    ooh whats this orange box?

after working for 12 hours solid  disassembled it, cleaned it, got the motherboard waterblock installed, graphics block installed, rads in, replaced all the fans, and...er thats about it hehe. It dosent sound like i did a lot in 12 hours, but i'm meticulous.

    Funny story...
I needed some vaseline or dielectric grease to insulate my CPU socket so that condensation wouldnt get in and fry it.
I couldnt find any grease, so I thought the easiest thing to do was use vaseline, I thought we had some already, but we didnt.
So anyways, I got some change and went down the road.
I nervously walked into my local shop and looked around. The woman behind the counter asked me what i was after. I said "This is going to sound strange, but all I need is vaseline."
She looked at me, clearly trying not to laugh.
"It's for my computer!" I said loudly, turning red.
"That's the best excuse I've heard yet!" she smirked.
All the customers turned around and gave me funny looks.
She slowly handed me a large tub of vaseline, chuckling to herself and I hastily paid and walked out.
The things I go through to build this bloody computer!

motherboard insulated unit set up and tested successfully! :D running for hours with no issues :D
next step is to hook up the WC

    Finally getting started on this!
okay, after much debating, decided on a motherboard. I wanted the mobo to have 3 or more PCI slots, support SLI, and have a blue and black colour scheme. I ALMOST went for an AMD 790FX-GD70 but at the last minute found a BFG 680i, and well, I already have an intel system so it made sense not to start all over - besides this board has SLI and the AMD does not :D

    enough waffle! pics!

in the above picture, the first PCI-E 1x will hold a soundcard, then the two black x16 slots will hold a GX2 each (in SLI!) then maybe a third later but for now an 8800GT in the middle slot :)

not my most professional pics I know.. :/

there you have it. case coming in the very near future, and the phase unit should be ordered up soon too ;)

    thanks for tuning in :D

This raises a question... why would you put a phase unit on a Nvidia chipset? They have horrendous vDroop and are finiky overclockers. The new Phenom IIs, on the other hand, respond incredibly well to cold, likewise with the X58...

I am sure you will get some awesome clocks out of the 680i, but it doesn't seem like a great use of such an awesome case...

Anyways, I am interested in watching a phase based build...

thanks for the comment - I was going to but funds are tight you know :/ If i got a sponsor for the board or a phenom I would, but the motherboard only cost me £89 so the sale of my other gear will cover that, whereas i'd have to find about an extra £150 to go for the phenom II. I'd rather do that though of course....damn money.
besides, if i screw up and the board gets broken due to improper insulation its less to fork out (never had to before)

thanks man, hopefully will turn out better this time ;)

    hurrah for you! thanks! :thumb:

I would like opinions on what colours the case should be.

The colours of this build are black, blue, and maybe some white? So I was thinking black interior with a sprayed blue exterior with some white graphics or decoration.

or how about white interiror with blue and white exterior panels? (as in side panels white and the main body blue) ?

or maybe white internals with blue and black exterior? so many choices

halp! any example pics of nice blue/white/black colour schemes you have see would earn you imaginary rep+ :D

I like your ideas for colour schemes. First one sounds nice, but only if you use a lightish blue, otherwise there will be no contrast between the blue and black. White graphics would be really cool, preferably large stencil like graphics...

Second one is icy... Very fitting...

Third, if you keep it to black and white will be very traditional. Black and white always looks pretty, but you need to keep it demure, which is not everyones cup of tea *cough* Cheaps...*cough*

Anyways, I keep being surprised by the colour schemes I see people able to pull off, I am convinced you will get it looking nice.

thanks for that laz. I'll have to do some sketches / sketchups, its will be a cobalt colour, so a nice contrast but not too garish.

I think that blue and black have been done so often that I think that you should go for something different.

Subset7's PURE looks awesome in black and white, especially the tubing:

But perhaps pale blue and white would go well with the '55 below' theme?

been trying some window designs and colour schemes. just done two for now. in design 1, the window is the nVidia logo, whilst design 2 is a stripes design. (ignore the door in both, i couldnt get it to change colour :confused)

anyway, in 1) I have put in a smoked window and the interior is black. in 2) the interior is white above the midplate and black below it for a contrast. the exterior is cobalt blue in both designs. let me know what you think please!

Ok, perhaps in hindsight it is slightly :duh:

The skecthups are looking good. I prefer number 1, but I think it might look better if the curves of the logo stretch to the bottom edge of the window.
Would it be possible to seem some models in different colours?

Yeah blue, black and white to stick to the theme. But you could always throw in some other colours if you have the urge!

well... u should have done that in white :thumb: the other way around.

blue should be for highlighting some part than it will turn in awsome
Subset7's PURE is a good example, than change the tubing and hardware part to blue :thumb:

I just found out that my Q9550 wont work with the 680i, damn. 45nm Quads will not work with the board at all, so should I get a 65nm and keep the motherboard, or go for the Phenom II and the GD-70? At this point a sponsor would seriously help lol, how can I get one :D

bearing in mind this is being built for overclocking ;) should I go find a QX6--- series or get the phenom?

EDIT: photobucket is down, so pics arent loading.
