i know i saw a thread around herea bout this, but i cant seem to find it. i have two monitors hooked up to my Geforce2 Ultra, i have DVI->VGA and a VGA, one monitor is a 21" sony trinitron, and the other is some little 15" noname thing, ive got like 5 of them. my problem is, when i plug in the second monitor, i get a fuzzy, like "snow" on a television picture, or if i play with the resolution\refresh rates i see the desktop twice tall and skinny on the 15" monitor. isnt that strange? i cant seem to find out why it wont let me use the second monitor. aslo, i dont have that little check box in windowsXP that says 'expand my desktop for multiple monitors' or whatever in the desktop->properties->settings menu. i also downloaded the latest geforce drivers yesterday, and i re-started my computer multiple times. any suggestions? thanks alot guys.
put the resolution AND refresh rate as low as possible on the 2nd monitor output, and work up from there.
yea =\ ive tried all of the monitors at the lowest refresh rates, ive hooked up the 15"er to the main VGA port and DVI->VGA on the 21"er, i still get messed up resolutions for the little one. i know its possible, because its outputting a signal to the 15" monitor. im just not sure if there is a program out there that will detect it and let me set a custom resolution for it. is there some kind of program for this that would help me out?
powerstrip (by entech) is a generic program for this, and probably the best. rage3dtweak will do it for ati cards, i think maybe rivatuner will do this aswell
i heard that using dual monitors is like using raid its best to use matching stuff like 2 x 15" monitors or what ever i also heard that most n vidia gfx cards although have dual output (mine does too) odds are it wont work didnt they release specific drivers for it? im not sure ive not tried. ill try mine i got a 17" and a 15" ill let you know later on or in the next few days i know it works with my laptop and that uses sis 760 or something using my ram
no, that doesnt matter, before i went to uni i used to 19" crt's with consecutive serial numbers, now i use a 17" crt and a 17" tft, i think those 15"s he has are just too old, and need 640x480@43hz or something.
You can use any sized monitor, its just nice to have matching sizes as then they both can run at the same resolution. Have you updated the drivers to the latest versions? But to be truthful Im not sure if a GF2 will be powerful to handle dual monitor.
w00t w00t. problems all fixed now. i went to a peter trapp computer show and some asians were selling some PCI Xstasy geforce4's for like $35 so i grabbed one. now my dual monitor setup works like a charm, and i can hook my tv up to this on top of the 2 monitors =D. im thinkin about getting one of those snazzy dual head AGP cards. then ill get 3 displays thanks for all the help guys.
