I am thinking of building a HTPC installed with Windows XP media Center Edition. I’ll use Media Center as the frontend.
A prerequisite for this is that I can run Media Center on 2 (if possible 3) displays simultaneously in different resolutions. The resolutions are 720x576 (with help from Powerstrip) and 1280x960 – if possible with 3 displays the last will be 800x600. As far as I’m aware Media Center does not support dual display.
On this basis I would be grateful if you could suggest a solution – either hardware or software based.

The different dual head video cards (ATI, NVIDIA etc.) gives one the possibility of choosing “clone”, “dual view” and so one. The problem with this is that if my primary display is set to 1280x960 a cloned Media Center/Desktop will only be a 1024x768 section, not displaying the whole picture.

Possible I could use a secondary PCI video card? Does anyone have any experience with this and maybe any recommendations? Using this solution (if possible) does also give me cause for consideration, due to this quote from TGB.

"Note that if your secondary display is driven by a second display card rather than through a dual-head displaycard, you will experience poor performance, particularly in video experiences."
    Why is that?

Bare in mind that the solutions I am looking for requires the possibility of sending a Csync signal via VGA out to the 720x576 display.

    Thank you.

PCI bandwith limitations may be the cause of this problem. As for running media center on multiple displays, I am pretty sure that it wont let you run it on more than one display at once, because I cannot open up multiple Media center windows, and this is running a radeon 9800 pro 128mb with a pvr-500 (a dual tv tuner card).

I can get Media Center to run on more than one display at once using clone mode. The problem with this is just that a cloned Media Center/Desktop will only be a 1024x768 section, not displaying the whole picture when the primary display is set to 1280x960 or greater.

Isn’t there a way of getting the secondary monitor to display the whole desktop/Media Center using clone function or something else?
