Hey there, I am currently working with a Toshiba PSAA8C-0FH00E notebook with the matshita UJ-841S dvd-ram drive, a intel dual core 1.6 2050, and 1Gb of ram. Now, my problem is that it is rated for 8x dvd-r burning and when burning a dvd, I am only given the option to burn at 2x. I feel as though with what the machine is running, I should be able to acheive a bit better than 2x burning ? note that I am using 16x dvd-r's, and I have tried using different media and I acheive the same result. thanks

2x is slow for an 8x rated drive, but you have to remember that it's a laptop drive, and 8x is the maximum speed at which the drive will burn discs.
It's very unlikely you'll ever manage to achieve full-speed burning... especially with a laptop drive.

I have an 18x NEC 7170A DVD±RW in my desktop system, but I've never been able to burn discs at 18x... even using Taiyo Yuden DVD-R/DVD+R :sigh:

If the speeds you're getting don't meet your needs, you should consider buying an external optical drive... or a standard internal optical drive, and put it a suitable external (5.25") enclosure
