hi all I recently came in to some new Hard drives and thought creating a film library would be a nice idea. Unfortunatley 99% of my films have copy protection on them. I have no intention of infringment, merely wish to get all my films in one place. just installed Yammm aswell so will have all meta data and artwork too! any suggestions on dvd ripping software (that bypasses protection)?
You can use dvd shrink if you have enough space. Save them as an iso and install a light weight program like magic disk. When you double click them magic disk will mount them and play automatically. This method will take up more space but you will retain menus and have a perfect clone of the dvd.
isnt the law been changed so you can do whatever you want with your own stuff ? i.e. if you own the film/music you can change it in to whatever format you please and gi ve it to your family but online sharing is still illegal just google DVDfab
+1 for DVDFab. You can use the free component (same download, just no need to register) if you just want to rip a DVD to hard disk. DVDshrink is then good for removing foreign-language audio etc to keep the file size down. Finally, of you want to convert the rips to a more efficient format, handbrake is great. --- - Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I thought making a backup copy for personal use was within the law? Or did I just dream reading that somewhere?
How is someone going to back up/copy there own films anyhow if its not breaking copy protection, i am not sure any films/dvds not come protected at all.
In the US there is a provision for "fair use" which includes making a back up for personal use. In the UK there is currently no such provision so even making a copy of an unproctected copyrighted CD or DVD is technically an infringement of that copyright. In either case breaking encytpion / copy protection (no matter how trivial) is against the law and that's unlikeley to change.
alright, alright don't beat me over the head with it. I guess a space age styled dvd rack is the best I can do
The proposed change would allow you to "format shift" (i.e. copy your CD's etc to your iPod or PC) but doesn't include the bypassing of copy protection to do so.
If that is the case then changing the law is utterly pointless as everthing has protection on it well nearly everything.
