    Good morning all!

I'm moving into a new flat tommorow and require a new DVD storage unit that is going to hold upwards of 200 DVD's. It needs to be as compact as can be and I have a budget of around £60-70.
Can anyone suggest a good one for me? I'm struggling to find many that even hold that many, yet alone any that look decent and aren't the size of a welsh dresser.

    Any help always appreciated,

    Sam.

I just went to ikea got the cheapest book shelf and put them on that. It has five layers and each layer takes the height of two dvd's. It takes 42 across. Which is 420 so plenty of space for your collection to grow.

    Bloody cheap too.

It is very expensive - you're meant to go and get one really. :)

Why not buy a 1TB drive for the same price and image them on that, then all you need to do is put them in a boxin the loft.

    Regards

That's just not the same though! It's nice to browse a collection properly.

1TB won't hold many DVD rips. Probably not more than 20 unless you dramatically reduce the quality. Not to mention...

Plus a 1TB drive would be 3 times the price. :p

Not to mention the time you'd waste ripping 200 DVD's! That's a time-eating process right there.

    huh?
you'd get more like 150 dvds on there, and a fair few more if you ripped out the extras...

dvd storage is a total arse tho, i've got mine double stacked in a 10 foot long victorian bookcase and there still isnt enough space :(

Hm? I rip my movies at full DVD resolution x264/1.5Mbps and they're indistinguishable from the originals (in fact, as I do a bit of deblocking and denoise, they look better sometimes). That puts things under the 2GB mark except for REALLY long movies. 500 flicks can fit on a 1TB HD :D

I may be a n00b, but at least I can pack 500 movies on one hard drive :)

From experience I totally agree. When I started Uni (4 years ago) I moved my DVD collection into a disc storage box. It's a great little box, stores 400 DVDs with index cards, but it's just not the same as having the boxes. As soon as I've got the space (when I finish the masters I expect) I'll be moving my collection back into their boxes (although personally I like to keep my living space uncluttered, so I'll be looking for cupboards rather than shelves).
