Its no good I've got to get a DVD-r drive my CD-r drive has packed in and I want more offline storage! Here's my dilema :- 1) Got a chipped Xbox and PS2. 2) Got 80Gig of mp3's. 3) Got a DV-camcorder and card - would like to create DVD's. 4) Got 20Gig of arcade roms. 5) My pioneer DVD player can play VCD's and SVCD's CD-r + CD-rw What DVD-r is going to burn disks that will work with this lot? Will I be able to cut DVD's to play in the DVD player? So far it looks like the Pioneer A04 but has anyone got a better solution and what media works best - got some princo general purpose (£1.50 each)
cause dvd burners only just came out not so long ago, i would not reccomend getting one, as they are still really only in the testing stages and are very often not compatible with other machines....
i would defo go for the A04 (104) and cheapest i found it is - http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/acat...s__DVD_Rom_drives__and___DVD___writers_9.html
its 1.385Mb/s for 1X and 2.770MB/s for 2X so a full DVD should take 25-30 mins at 2X check the review at http://www.cdr-info.com/Sections/Ar...rticleHeadline=Pioneer+DVR-104+DVD-R&Series=0
For a 4.7Gb DVDr it takes about 30 minutes to write on a A04(104) and you can double that time if you're writing to a DVD-RW
IMO I'd stay away from DVD writing formats, since the format war is still not over (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RAM, DVD+RW, DVD-RW). Its simular to VHS v's Betamax and DCC V's MD wars. I'd hate to get one only to find that 1-2 years down the line my £400 DVD writer is obsolete But however if ya not looking for portabilty, and are only gonna use it for personal storage and not fussed about playing the DVD on other systems, get one, 4.7Gig of storage
