Hey guys! its Ace i got a bunch of cases off of ebay for under a hundred bucks and i am planning to mod them hopefully in the near future! One of the cases is an older Lian-Li cant remember which but it uses the standoffs for the mobo tray. So on the inside of the case on the panels the first owner applied a computer kit of Dynamat. http://www.dynamat.com/products_computers_and_more_introduction.html

One side is this clay sticky like substance and the other is covered in a thin sheet of aluminum or like tin foil. I have tried to remove the mats just by peeling them off but it doesn't seem to work. It is really making me frustrated, does anyone have ideas or suggestions? Has anyone used Dynamat before?

    Thanks,
    Ace:thumb:

I work at a mechanic shop and though we sell the product i've never worked with it. I would just assume it's a strong double sided tape type thing, so maybe try warming it up with a heat gun if possible so it becomes easier to remove. I know we do that to remove decals from windows and stuff and it works pretty well.

Thanks mansueto and tmaxxking1 for your quick replys! I will have to try the heating it up like u said. i will be going to Home Depot soon so i will be able to pick a heat gun up. Hopefully it all doesn't become a huge gooey mess. I also have some goo gone which is like wat u put a link too.
    Thanks again,

P.S. ~ if anyone has any easier ways to remove the dynamat, don't be shy!!!

I have done many things in my past job where I had to clean stuff off like decals, glue, sealant and other crap. Heating them up works pretty good. It will probably not get everything and the stuff left over will probably not come off good. I've often used a razor blade thingy (not the kind you shave with :) ) to get the rest of the stuff off. Solvent and Alcohol also work good to get the remaining stuff off. Just be sure after using solvent that you use alcohol to clean it off after.

The older dynamat is very similar to asphalt roofing mastic. So here is some mastic remover. I have installed dynamat, but never removed. Good luck with it!

Yeah...I can back up this statement. I've worked with the stuff when we were working on my car. A heat gun is your best bet plus some Goo Gone(http://www.googone.com/googone.aspx), or lighter fluid if your cheap like me, to get rid of whats left over.

I was going to say lighter fluid or carburator cleaner. ^ beat me to it.

Haha. I forgot about Carburetor Cleaner. That will work too. I was thinking though - if you could pull up a little edge of the mat by force, you could then continue by using whatever method you like to neutralize the sticky on the bottom of the mat as you pull up from the case. It would be slow going, but if you didn't have a heat gun you could try it. Know what I mean?

Also, you could douse the mat with lighter fluid or carburetor cleaner and light it....it might have some adverse effects on the case, but I'm pretty sure it would get rid of the mat. Haha. Just kidding.
