    Hi folks,

I seem to remember reading about dynamic folders (though it may have been given another name).
ie, you can have your normal folders for filing mail then you have dynamic folders, which don't contain any mail, but have links to other email based on rules.
For example, I could file email from UserA@domain.com, UserB@domain.com and UserC@domain.com in relevantly named folders.
Then have an ABC folder that shows email from them all based on the email addresses containing '@domain.com'.

Anyone know what these folders are called and how to set them up in Thunderbird?

    TIA.

not sure about dynamic but you can set up rules to move data from say *@domain.com into relevant folders depending on what user sent it

Yeah, I have done that already which helps keep things tidy. :)

I just remember watching some video online about these 'virtual' folders and really wanted to create that too... :)

    Smart folders?

I dunno about the Windows version, but in OS X, it's File->New->Saved Search. Set criteria and go. Excellent in combination with message tagging.

They're a godsend, especially if you set things up well with rules and such. I've got one for my recent messages (date received: last 7 days), to archive (date received: more than 14 days ago), schoolwork (message tag: school), etc. Works great with my archive hotkeys, so my smart folders will still pull my archived mail but keep my inbox tidy. Of course, I'm using Apple Mail with some plugins, but the concept is identical in Thunderbird.

    Yep, worked it out.

Do a search and at the bottom there's an option to save a search as a smart folder.

Works brilliantly with tagged emails as has been said. :)
