hmmm , ok so leaving the EU and repealing the HRA (and replacing with a new one), would mean the ECHR wouldn't override our own court system , as we would only be in the EEA not the EU (as iirc the EU is signed up to the ECHR but not the EEA)

it could well be 10 years anyway - juncker though is playing hard ball , but ruling by fear wont keep him in a job

not a chance - the majority of those who voted in a democratic vote , voted to leave

so , just because the losers do not like the result - does that mean thay can have tantrums and demand a rerun? what if remain then win - and leave do the same? will it be best of 3?

no - there wont be another referendum

If the petition accumulates 18 million votes, definitely.

Actually the referendum itself is not legally binding. The government can just ignore it (people keep forgetting that). Parliament, as elected representatives also can act differently if it judges that in the people's best interest. And since a majority of MPs are Remain across all parties, a general election won't change that, unless people vote en masse for UKIP. And we already know at least 48% definitely won't.

And would there be such an outcry? We already have "regreteers", and now campaign lies have been unmasked and people have had a preview of the market reaction, there may be a swing in the public mood.

Meanwhile Article 50 needs to be invoked for a Brexit to happen at all. It cannot be forced. The EU may look for ways of doing so but it would contravene its own rules to eject a member forcibly just because it held an internal referendum that doesn't even have any legal power --just an opinion poll, really-- and doesn't even meet the EU referendum standard in terms of turnout and proportion of "out" votes.

Now, remind me: did the Daily Heil (sorry, Mail) push Leave as the only sensible vote to its readers? Oh, yes, it did. <golf clap>

And if the vote increases for leave? Have another one?

If leave decide to get 17.5 million "registered email address" on a petition for yet another referendum? Then another?

Or if 17.5 million people don't vote? rinse and repeat.

Has it occurred to you that the people who didn't vote, never vote....ie have ceased their democratic rights?

In democracy, you can't keep making people repeat until you get the desired outcome unless of course you work for the Brussels mob. I am sure they will try this on at some point.

Or, of course, you work for the Leave campaign - Farage having said very specifically that if the vote was as close as 52-48 he would be calling for a second referendum. Of course, he was saying that when he though the vote would be 52 Remain 48 Leave; now it's 48 Remain 52 Leave he's gone very quiet on the subject. Odd, that(!)

Juncker is just spouting rhetoric. It is in the interest of the UK and the EU to go for this solution. The UK gets a decent compromise that gives it a reasonable autonomy and common market access, preserving passporting rights and Euro clearing house services; the EU can tell other sceptical countries: "Look how the UK ended up in a position of less power and influence". Face saving all around.

If the referendum should teach the EU one thing is that you cannot scare dissenting countries in line. Either they want to stay in, or you need to let them go, and a large EEA membership still benefits a core EU (it's possibly even a better model to maintain a two-tier membership).

Actually, according to Farage you totally can.

Not the first time Farage has gone back on his opinion. :D

While I voted remain I would not ask for a new referendum, at least not that soon.

Maybe in like 20 years when we actually know for certain what the consequences of leaving where in the first place, but now? That would be just plain retarded.

The focus should be on making the best of the situation that was voted for, not second guessing the first vote.

Must have different layers to the cake but one cherry on top(CEO). Both papers are fruit cake.

Huh. I didn't know that. How bizarre. Are there many people who subscribe to one but not the other? I know my mother used to get both the Daily Mail and the Mail on Sunday.
    Word.

LOL, The other day it was Fareg who would be irrelevant after a leave vote, which he is (I don't have an issue with that)
So why keep bringing him up?

Possibly to point out some double standards.

By the way, the petition for a second EU referendum was created by a Leave voter --when he still thought Remain was going to win.

PS: bookmarked that picture for when you find out what "Leave" actually means. :D

Two reasons: it was entirely relevant to the matter at hand (unlike the badly Photochopped image macros that are appearing in this thread - shall I knock a Leave-logo'd one up of Hitler rubbing his hands with glee and the caption "Stage One Complete" on it?), and it's the first time I've even mentioned Farage on this 'ere forum so I'm slightly confused at the "keep bringing him up" part of your question.

You said only those mad, bad, and dangerous to know people in Brussels would be crazy enough to call for a second referendum; I pointed out that Farage, who is not in Brussels but instead right here in the UK (worst luck), said he would call for a second referendum if the score was exactly what it is now - just against, rather than for, his camp.

It seems like every time you mention retiring you also mention a different country :D

It would certainly be a big decision especially with a family.

If the vote is based on a lie, yes. Two big points of the vote leave have been basically dismissed. I've got family members who voted leave to secure our boarders and restrict immigration with the intention of having a better job market for their kids - even though I pointed out the non-EU immigration is higher and if we're being failed by the EUs free movement our government is failing us on non-EU immigration. But you know, they weren't having it.

Lo and behold "free movement of labour".

I don't mind the whole "we send X amount to the EU a week" BS, that's more spin than a lie, but to campaign on the NHS and immigration and then turn round afterwards and say the electorate were mistaken? Not even got the balls to admit they lied, blame the electorate.

As for the "REMAIN camp lost", no we didn't. There isn't a win lose in this, it's a direction we want to take the country, I have no issue when people wish to be in or out even if I don't agree with it and yea sure I'll try and persuade you round to 'my side'. But the whole country isn't going in the direction they want if they voted on lies, lies that happen to make up part of one sides main points.

If no-one cares about the new info about both the NHS and immigration, then the vote remains unchanged the country continues down the path it wants. If the vote changes, the electorate did care and the country goes down the path it wants.

Gareth, With all due respect I don't think I've even conversed with you at all, wan't meant for you.
The person who stated Farage being irrelevant after a leave vote knows who he is. ;)
Facebook has been used as a political tool so why not, I didn't knock it up but from what I've been told It's apt.
Hitler....really. Maybe do up a one in a few years once the EU wide taxation system and army rolls out as the nation state of Europa is born. The only two tenets left after all.

I am correct, Brussels called a second referendum in more than one EU province I have no doubt they will do so again.
