It certainly opened my eyes, it seems the entire world believes, and probably with good reason, that Brexit is not going to improve peoples lives and is going to end up wrecking the UK but our politicians are terrified of actually saying so and judging by the vitriolic responses it seems that fear is warranted.

Maybe that's why Eurosceptics react so badly to criticism, reason, and logic as they know deep down that what they been told was wrong and just don't want to admit it, isn't there a word for when someone refuses to accept that reality contradicts their belief?

What do you want them to do?
Call off Brexit and focus on solving home made problems like below?

    https://www.theguardian.com/society...ssness-in-england-at-highest-level-since-2007

But wait, that would require politicians to grow a spine and some balls, so kicking the brexit can down the road for as long as possible so we can keep blaming Brussels for everything is what we will be stuck with for the next couple years.

Yes. But that would mean acknowledging that the problem lies with them, not with the EU/Immigrants/the voices in Boris' head, so they're not going to.

To be fair, Sajuuk seemed determined to take personally a post that I stated twice was not personal.

Well, last week the House of Commons asked whether the impending 'settled status' arrangements for EU citizens would still be implemented if there was no deal with the EU. The answer was: "We expect to get a good deal with the EU". I think that tells you everything we need to know. :blah:

Indeed and it'll always cause trouble!

Well I mean she's been here since the 50's AFAIK, so I'm not sure if she'll be covered under some other arrangement as I think she was over here before the EEC was formed. Worst case scenario, she'll go back to Italy, where admittedly she does prefer it but she'll be separated from the rest of the family. Actually, it might well affect my great aunts and uncles - hadn't thought of that!

Let me channel my inner Brexiter....

That would be a start, maybe they could even tell people where it all went wrong.

That is how Remain put up such a piss-poor campaign in the first place: by refusing to take ownership of the problems that Vote Leave laid at the feet of immigrants and the EU. And the Brexiteers knew quite well that this was the gambit by whicht hey won. So the new Brexit government sure is not going to start giving the game away now.

    As Euractive says:

It's more than that IMO, if they called of Brexit they'd have to be honest with the electorate on the reasons why they called for a referendum in the first place, the conservative would have to admit they did it because the rhetoric from the right wing press got so out of hand that people were defecting to UKIP and threatening their grasp on power, and Labour would have to admit they supported it because they faced a similar revolt but to a lesser extent and they wanted to convert the UK into the peoples republic of England.

Pretty much, all outcomes will cause damage even abandoning Brexit.

Weak and Wobbly May claims to have a new plan over the NI issue that will solve all the problems:

    https://www.rte.ie/news/brexit/2018/0702/974659-brexit/

Of course she simply ruled out some possible outcomes without as much as hinting at what that supposed solution might be.

Already rejected by the EU anyway. The UK cabinet is still fighting over cake that doesn't exist.

HMG: We have a third way!
Narrator: There is no thrid way

    *a few hours later*

HMG: We didn't discuss it because there isn't a third way
    Narrator: Told you

    The problem:
Country A shares two borders with Country B and one of those borders is rather contentious

May: I promise to apply different rules at border 1 and 2 with with no internal economic, political or constitutional divergence.
Everyone: But basic logic suggests that trying to apply different rules at border 1 and 2 with no internal economic, political or constitutional divergence simply can't work, to suggest otherwise would be like trying to fit the square peg through the round hole.

May: What if we tried to fit the triangle through the round hole instead?
Everyone: Just how dumb do you think we are?

May: What if there was an extra shape and we just refuse to define the details of that extra shape?
Everyone: The chance of us committing to that is exactly 0.

Seriously, someone should check if she has taken her meds...
