Thats what happens when people get the job because of money/background rather than competence.

I would imagine they would like to have a "useful fool" as P.M. in the UK, someone who could we relied on to find excuses for Russian aggressions based on an ingrained reflexive anti-Americism. Ideally a pacifist who would remove the UK's armed forces from any strategic calculation.

Whether they decide to meddle in the next GE or not is another matter.

It would save them a bundle. :p

I wouldn't worry too much about removing the armed forces strategic calculations, it would probably take him an entire term to even decide if he should be the one to decide and even then he'd probably do his best impression a cat sitting on barrier made of polls connected to each other with wooden boards. :D

The way things are going, do they have to? The UK is breaking away from the EU, and in doing so also losing relevance with the US, and the Tories look like pretty much having destroyed themselves for the next GE; Corbyn stands a good chance for PM either way.

I wish Kenneth Williams were still alive, this is all worthy of a Carry On Brexit.

Looks like negotiators are going to propose the extension to the transition period that reads as 20XX in the original agreement is going to be changed to the end of December 2022, seven months after the next GE, you can literally hear the can clinking down the road.

7 months after the next GE, provided they can find a bribe large enough to make the DUP abandon its principles and keep propping up wobbly May, because without the DUP support the Tories may well end up triggering a GE long before the scheduled one.

    Really?

Corbyn labour is very different to Blairs tho and SNP already indicated it would be willing to support Labour.

Why's Mrs May making such an effort to sell her deal to the public?

It's not like we're the ones who get to decide, although maybe she's expecting that there's a very high likelihood that we in fact will be the ones to decide, maybe she's fairly confident that parliament isn't going to vote for her deal, maybe she's starting the hard sell early.

The only thing is I've not worked out how that could come to be as hasn't she said there won't be a second referendum as long as she's PM, so anyone fancy taking a stab at why she's making great efforts to convince the public that her deal is the best option.

She probably wants to get business leaders, celebrities etc to threaten MPs with not getting re-elected if they kill her deal.

Because she wants to stave off a referendum or because one may be coming? No idea.

Feel a bit sorry for her on a human level, she's been asked to clean up an impossible mess. Not going to happen. If it were JRM would have been able to get 48 letters in and they would have somebody else in the top job - nobody wants it right now though, immediate hassle and failure on the cards.

The things is we're not supposed to have a GE for another three'ish years so getting the public on side makes little sense as a lot can and probably will change between now and then.
