So after faiing to get her out by force the new plan is to... ask nicely?

Even if they did and kept their word (lol) there aren't enough of them to actually swing the vote in her favour, they have 54 members.

If at first you don't succeed -

And they had the gall to say EU were the ones that kept asking the question until you gave them the answer they want.

EDIT: doesn't the parliamentary rule book [or whatever Erskine May actually is] say you can't present the same bill twice in a parliamentary sitting?

Oh yeah, alot of today has been designed to try and create a situation where May's heavily defeated 'deal' is brought back.

Brexit with the 'deal' (it's not and worse than what we have) or leave with no deal. She's going to dig her heels in to keep asking the same question.

But yeah, it's ok for her to ask the same question over and over....

Yes, but in true badly written rulebook fashion there is nothing to stop you moving the words around on the paper and presenting a 'new' bill as many times as you want.

Would be the ultimate '**** you' from Bercow though...

May/Govt - please pull the amendment [the one they went on to lose by 4]
    Bercow - nope

May/Govt - Here's a bill that parliament have already rejected.
    Bercow - nice try... nope.

David Davis with regards to May and Brexit: “she will get there, people like me will help her get there”

    Ok, we are officially doomed.

That'll get the ERG red faces fuming.

Edit: According to an irate Paterson of the ERG they are the mainstream of the Conservative Party.

BlueKip indeed. He dismisses the CBI, appatently they just represent businesses "fanatical" about not leaving.

The only realistic approach to delivering any brexit at all that doesn't involve the May WA or jumping from a cliff:

Establish a cross party committee in the UK that comes up with a new strategy
Then start negotiations over from scratch
Don't actually leave until the withdrawal and future relationship are agreed by both the UK and EU

And yes, that would require a couple years worth of extension (say a minimum of until the following EU elections in 2024)

Plus no surprise at all that Tusk is open to the EU turning the other cheek so the UK can sort itself out, the dude was born in the 50s in Gdansk and his grandfather was in a concentration camp, with that kind of history he ain't keen on tossing us off a cliff into the hands of brown ERG / Farage / DUP shirts.

(of course if he could convince the rest of the EU to follow suit is a different story)

    Lol...

Bercow selected the amendment (among some others) that says May should not be allowed to bring back her twice defeated zombie deal, if that should pass in voting later on the meltdown from May and Tory whipping decisions will win the Oscar for comedy, sh*tshow and logic puzzle of the decade.

Bercow gets alot of flak but that is wise Parliamentary procedure.

I could see if it was a closer result the first two times then, yeah, a third time could be possible. But seriously, it was so heavily defeated both times it's ridiculous to bring it back again, it's be only for pure playing chicken.

DUP. FFS the DUP. A minority party holding sway over a minority government. It's a fricking joke.

If anything this argues for proportional representation. A single tiny party could not hold so much power and at the very start over 50% of the Parliament, at least, would have had to have been involved.

Edit: Is it just me? Is it a 'British' thing? A tiny part of me actually enjoys all this.

It is indeed perfectly sensible for him to select it in regards to parliamentary procedure, however if it passes then the government must either whip like mad against the amended main motion (and risk the party) or officially bury the May WA (and risk the consequences for May).

So as it stands May is planning to put her 'deal' to a vote, again, next week.

Oh and Labour will not back the amendment calling for another referendum.

    Useless bunch of wuckfits.

And they are arguing that even with an extension that lasts beyond the start of the new EU parliament the UK would not have to hold elections:wallbash:

It's a fantasy land there at the moment.

Some MP i've never seen talking about 'project fear' and lorries of fresh fruit backing up in Europe, cars and washing machines...

Amendments to amendments being voted on..

So having 30 June as Brexit day rejected 314 to 311.

Amendment to the amendment rejected. Now they vote on the availability of tea and coffee in the cafe, or something.

Now they are voting on an uncapped extension (the rejected amendment to the amendment capped it at 30th June). If this passes, then the extension can be of any length.

EDIT: no wait, that comes later. Now they are voting on whether MPs should take control of the Parliamentary time table. Just lost that vote to a majority of... 2.

So they reject the Benn amendment 314 to 312, so MPs not allowed to take control away from Government and try and sort it out.

Edit: Great, so that effectively means May's 'deal' will come back again....

They just voted down the Labour amendment for an extension as well, by a majority of 16. I guess it's now down to the government amendment, else the UK will crash out on 29th March without a deal.
