    Who or what is Mercosur?

Would it by any chance be a bloc made up from countries that came together so they could increase their leverage in trade negations, that sounds like something we'd want to do. :D

You nutter, it took them 20 years because both sides were big parties. Now after Brexit the UK will be nimble, like a tadpole. And whenever we come up against one of these leviathans we'll just out manoeuvrer them, you'll see.
Our politicians are fairly well versed in it so far, and have been practising lots - you ask them a direct question and they dodge it giving an answer about jam. Nimbleness! Everyone else will be so confused it'll catch them off guard. Because we're British!

In all seriousness, I expect our trade deals to be pretty quick. Everyone will tell us what we're getting and what they're taking and we'll nod.

Well the 12 provisional ones we've agreed to so far have sort of been quick, they're only copy & paste jobs but one every 3 months is pretty good going.

I do wonder how much control people took back when our government agreed to those on our behalf, though, and why we're only copying & pasting existing terms when we were told we could have tailor made agreements that better suited the UK.

Size was probably not even half the reason it took so long, the financial meltdown of Argentina and the dispute within Mercosur over the membership of Venezuela (currently suspended) will have caused a lot of delays.

It doesn't say much about having "taken back control" (or not) that they are "only" copy & paste, just a simple acknowledgement of the fact that we simply didn't have enough time to renegotiate them.

Things like Westminster and Scotland slugging it out in the Supreme Court over who gets to do what with returned powers says more tbh:

Oh and Olly Robbis has Cameron'd out of the Brexit mess:

They are not exactly "copy and paste". They are "almost copy and paste". But so far nobody in Fox' department has wanted to go into detail what that "almost" means... so you can rest assured that the new arrangements will be significantly worse.

Apparently Farage promises £200billion if they win in an election...

Must have a bus for that. It includes scrapping HS2 (yup agree on that), refusing to pay what we legally owe to the EU and scrapping Foreign Aid....:wallbash:

About 50 billion short, perhaps we'll see that when he explains about all that funding he got too...

Oh and in other news, unicorns.

    For reference:
The government is estimated to spend approx £173 billion in the 2020 financial year on pensions, so even if the slimy used car salesman managed to conjure up £200 billion it would basically be a drop in the ocean.

If we don't like the internationally binding legal agreement they've made we can vote them out at the next election though, it won't change what they've agreed but 'control' 'sovereignty' 'feelings'. o_O

Not all of them have been ratified yet, so we could still call backsies on some and negotiate less favourable terms:thumb:

So when do we get to decide if we like the terms of these agreements....we're in control after all, right, right. ;)

As soon as we have time for it, you know whenever a new PM can assemble a stable Cabinet and command the confidence of the House and Parliament isn't either on holiday or prorogued and we aren't too busy putting out the fires caused by refusing to listen when the EU said: "Don't waste this time":p
