That feeling is a big part of why I upped and left before Brexit. It seems like a huge indignity to have to apply for something like that knowing full well that the government will cock the whole thing up a-la Windrush.

A sorry state to see any country in, let alone the one you grew up in.

Being English, British and European i'm not sure how to feel anymore.

I'm having my EU citizenship removed, I obviously am at odds with a majority of the English and Britain may not last too long.

Oh well, never was one to mindlessly follow a crowd

Yeah, it felt a bit insulting to have to do that after 27 years integrating in UK society and working in the NHS. Not sure that being fast-tracked through the pilot as an NHS worker made it better --it felt that I was only accepted because I fill a shortage occupation in a politically sensitive area.

I do not think that it will convey any long-term protection. For me it is just a short-term means to an end: it will allow me to finish my last 2 years in the NHS before I retire. Then it's zut, je me tire.

Well I choose not to be so pessimistic seeing as I have to live here.

I could think like that but then i'd have to spend the rest of my life on massive doses of meds.

That's not to say I won't be vigilant.

Just make sure that you've got your proof of residence: tax records, employment record, stuff like that. There is always the option to apply for British citizenship in the long term (if your partner can have dual nationality).

Hah. About 40% of finns here have not applied for settlement status. Some might have a headache later on.

    Got mine months ago.

The deadline is 30th June 2021

Tell them it's any 5 consecutive years, not necessarily the last 5 (they just have to submit photos/scans of documents during the application).

But yeah, tell them hopi hopi.

Sooner rather than later now we'll be out by the day's end.

All finns I know here have received their status so that's sorted.

In the end, its going be a headache only to whomever gets lazy and does not apply for it.

They kinda had a hiatus after the album PSI was released, but then they had the None for All and All for One* EP in 2006 and I think that was the last new material they ever released. There was a tour in late 2018 though, which I totally missed...

Shame we haven't seen more of them, they were a fantastic band.

*This was an ace EP btw, the cover art was brilliant:

I saw a small flurry of fireworks from our living room window.

Just waiting for them to fall back down and set fire to their house.

Still, they'll have their shed. And it's their shed.

There were fireworks practically outside my window.

I'm doing far more productive things: getting drunk and watching war films.

No fireworks... no bongs... nothing... so here's someone else's anecdote...
