That is how he works generally. Then he'll claim victory no matter what.

Probably waiting until the US election is over.

We'll walk away if the EU doesn't back down

    In private, UK backs down

Deal is reached, boris proclaims victory, fleet street claim EU bowed to boris' majesty and negotiating prowess.

    no-one reads what was agreed

    Farage claim betrayal

And I'll inevitably need to dig up the bookmark of that IDS video when they start complaining about not having read it:hehe:

I thought I better click through to find out what this was about and found the concluding paragraph
Is this really such an appalling proposal. If I wanted to campaign to abolish the NHS, this would hardly occur as a devistating strike!

For me the opening line is much more pertinent than the last paragraph:

Not allowing family members to see patients in hospital (you know, the place where all the sick people go) while we're in the middle of a global pandemic that's infected 39 million people and killed a shade under 1.1 million.

I'm sorry... I missed the part that's barbaric...? Did we go back to "treatments" like leeches and trephination while I wasn't looking?

Yes, it's horrible for people who are seriously ill to not have the support of their family members, but the risk is just too high. There was no slack in the healthcare system before COVID-19 really took hold in the UK, and the only way it has survived is the way it always does: by working the clinical staff to the bone.

I'm sure if the author, the author's family, or the author's friends were seriously ill in hospital with COVID-19 - or were healthcare workers treating COVID-19 patients - then the author's "patient priorities" would be entirely different.

Depends on whether you think that the purpose of healthcare is to meet clinical need, or to meet consumer demands. What I see is a pitch to get people to think of healthcare as a consumer service, rather than a public service. The next step is posing the question why you should pay for someone else's healthcare; why people shouldn't pay for their own. You can guess where that leads next.

    But millions don't.

Or rather they won't until they're asking the question, "what do you mean I won't be receiving treatment?"

The general public is stupid, easily (mis-)lead and doesn't care enough for and/or understands politics/polemics enough to get anything close to a warning about things they'll lose before they're gone.

True, but smaller and niche outfits are less likely to swallow the costs/ballache and more likely to just jack it in.

Big outfits like Amazon probably could just eat the costs, whether they will is another matter.

    Excellent.
And lets not forget the treaty of Utrecht, and we can throw in the Treaty of Windsor (1386) to ensure free trade with Portugal, I'm sure there are a few more old goat scrotums laying around in an archive that could be blown off and brought out to play

We can honour that treaty and set the quota to that total that would have been made by 50 17th Century fishing boats.

Edit: the biggest fishing issue we have is that we sell most of our fish to the mainland.

We sell what we catch and import what we actually eat.
