For however long it take for Boris to cave and offer the EU everything they want. Or four Boris to be ousted by the increasingly desperate Tories for his usurper to then give th EU everything they want an be hailed as a hero for re-opening the borders.

I am now waiting for the end of January and for Joe Biden to start bringing up the US response to the undermining of the GFA, that's going to be awkward.

The beauty of this is: UK visitors to Gibraltar now have to now go through customs control, while Spanish visitors can just walk in and out. :hehe:

So we knew about the variant for a while.
Boris does nothing until very last minute.
Other countries caught off guard and close borders.
By the time lorry drivers can be tested we'll be into January.
Oh, supply issues nothing to do with no deal - all to do with covid.

Am i way off the mark?

Well, in a strange turn of events the Germans seem to be on top of it.

I got a letter the other day saying, essentially, "We know you're British, you need a permit to stay after the new year. Fill out this form, post us some proof of these things and a photo. Don't contact us, because we're busy with all of these requests. We'll check everything and send you your permit."

Although, interestingly, despite the proactive nature of this and knowing that I'm one of those foreign types, the letter was in German.

Shocking. Not that the letter was in German, but that it exists at all. Wouldn't have thought it possible for this country to get anything ready almost in time.

At roughly a gram per person this cargo would have to be flown in by Air Colombia to make an impact.

We won't need any of that review or scrutiny nonsense... we'll simply approve it and then bitch about it later, just like with the WA:

If'n the supermarkets didn't reject thousands and thousands of tonnes of perfectly edible veg every year they might not have to worry about half of the shortages they are, so screw 'em.

Dunno about the supermarkets near you, but the ones here have a specific "wonky veg" range sold at a discount over the standard, more conventionally attractive veg.

But that has little impact on the fact we don't grow enough to feed the nation natively and rely on imports, but you already knew that. We *could*, but it'd involve basically doing away with the meat industry and repurposing feed crops as human food. An environmental and ethical win, to be sure, but I can't say I wouldn't miss lamb chops and sirloin steaks.

Not found here they don't, none of the big 3 any way.

We're self sufficient for lamb so you'll no go hungry.

Yet we still import 100,000 tonnes of the bloody stuff, absolute madness.
The whole industry needs a shake up, consumers too, not that we have to be self sufficient at all.

Morrisons, Asda, Tesco, Aldi, Lidl, Sainsbury's, Waitrose... You pretty much have to go out of your way to find a major supermarket that doesn't have a wonky veg selection these days.
You've missed my point, and apologies if that's because I didn't make it clear: the only way we could be self-sufficient in fruit and veg would be if we stopped farming meat. No lamb, no beef, no chicken, no pork... Maybe game like rabbit and venison, but expect prices to be sky-high owing to dramatically increased demand.

I've never seen it in an Asda, Tesco or Sainsbury's.
Having a read about it appears Asda only supply boxes to selected stores so it's not surprising. I'd say they're all making a token effort to claim points rather than actually putting it out on shelves with the regular stock.

Makes no odds to me though, I get ours from farm shops.

We will never be self sufficient for fruits, but my point for other foods is 2 fold, we could be a lot more self sufficient if we choose and altered our habit's, and we don't have to totally self sufficient, so no need to knock off meat consumption.

Maybe in branches located in South East England.

I have an Asda, Lidl and Tesco within walking distance, all three only sell perfect looking fruit and veg in family size plastic packaging (that you can't buy anyway because it is only edible on one random day as it goes from "ripen at home" to "rot at home" with shocking speed).

So I have to get up early Friday or Saturday mornings and visit the market (pandemic permitting lol) for fruit and veg like they did in the 18th century.
On the plus side, barely any packaging going to the landfill and I can buy quantities suitable for a 1 person household.

The problem with putting it out with the regular stock is that everybody buys the pretty veg instead... which is why supermarkets started rejecting the wonky stuff in the first place. But Morrisons does have a section dedicated to pre-packaged and discounted wonky veg in every store, along with cheap boxes of assorted wonky veg. Source: Morrisons is my local supermarket.

...I live in Bradford, West Yorkshire.

You can get wonky veg in the North East too.

Morrisons even have bags labelled wonky.

I prefer veg with character.
